Topic: NGD - Myka Dragonfly

Hey all, I thought I would post my latest NGD on here - it is a custom built Dragonfly Premium model by luthier David Myka from Myka Guitars in Seattle.

I actually started this build back in 2010 with him, and the reason it took so long was that I only had limited funds at the time so we agreed to a "slow build" whereby I would trickle feed him money from time to time and he would get parts and do the next stage of the build.

I commissioned this build as a tribute to my father, who passed away in 2009.  I would not be where I am in life today without my fathers love and support.

The guitar finally arrived here in Australia last weekend, and I am completely bowled over by it.  It sounds and plays amazing.  It is extremely LOUD unplugged, and plugged in, the Lollar humbuckers give a wide tonal pallette that covers nearly all the bases for me.

David also went the extra mile, with the inlay on the 12th fret that I requested.  The inlay is actually the Tamil script for my dad's name "Jega".  He did an incredible job with the very thin scripting.

Every time I pick up this guitar, I am filled with a sense of peace and tranquility.  I feel in some way that I can reconnect with my father, wherever he is now.  I shall play this instrument until I no longer can, then I will hand it down to my son.

David has just created a gallery on his website, which has great pics as well as the technical details: http://mykaguitars.com/instruments/124/default.htm

My wife also took some shots in our garden of this amazing guitar [Note: Some of the backdrop material in certain shots were my mum's wedding Saris].

Congrats, stunning build!  There's nothing like a guitar custom-made for you.  I've never had the pleasure of playing one, but Dragonfly's sure look amazing.  Enjoy!

Wow, stunning!

The knobs, wood?  Semi hollow?

That's right Steve, the knobs are carved from Rosewood, as are the tuning pegs!  A work of art by the builder.  It is a semi hollow, and it is REALLY loud acoustically.  I was playing it in my bedroom the other night, and my son in the next room came in and asked if I was playing my Maton acoustic dreadnought!

Congratulations Devan!
I am a huge fan of David's work and this guitar is absolutely stunning.
I love that it is a tribute to your father. I'm sure he would be very proud.
You seem like a really special person and if you ever make it to the states and the Washington, DC area, please let me know. I would love to meet you in person and shake your hand
Best Wishes!
