Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

not sure I want to list positions as these vary depending on my mood.

Still with us:

Gov’t Mule
AC/DC
Rival Sons (the thrill of seeing emerging bands)
Temperance Movement (also an emerging band)
Pearl Jam

Gone but not forgotten:

Free
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Led Zep (listed as gone as they will not reform)
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd

Whoa, your list goes to "11"...Like the Spinal Tap amps !

In order of discovery (sort of):

Aerosmith (catalog from S/T through Draw The Line is unbeatable)
Thin Lizzy (Phil, the songs, the guitarists - they had it all)
Rush (my first concert, 40 amazing years of simply being themselves)
UFO (seeing Michael Schenker live just blew me away, love Paul Chapman era too)
Gary Moore (all eras ... greatest guitarist ever)
Ozzy Osbourne (both Sabbath and solo - he has a strange, engaging appeal)
The Cars (helped me find my appreciation for pop melody)
Stevie Ray Vaughan (really opened my eyes to the blues)
Nirvana & Alice In Chains (changed music when we needed it most - and we need it again I think)
Deftones (beautiful and dangerous)
Joe Bonamassa (brought more maturity and diversity to my musical life)

These are the one my ears perk up every time I hear them.  These are the ones I never get tired of.  These are the ones I define myself and my "musical career" by.

Lol! After 35 years of buying music and going to shows, I just couldn't stop at 5.  I couldn't even stop at 10!

Loving everyone's lists though.  Need more!

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Ok, here is more.  According to my ipod these are artists I listen to most, after the the 5 I already gave. In no particular order.
Allman Bros.
SRV
Jimmy Thackery
Mark Knopfler
Nimmo Bros.
Ronnie Earl
Walter Trout
Buddaheads
Tinsley Ellis
Gary Moore

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Yeah...Ya know Walter is probably the most underrated guitarist in history...

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

My current top four are relatively easy:

Joe
Pat Metheny
Jeff Beck
Walter Trout

For number five I would choose between:

Tommy Emmanuel
Eric Johnson
Sonny Landreth
John Scofield

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Something I notice here, and it might just be me...sure there are guitars in almost every band, but the artists/bands listed here are very guitar heavy.  The biggest names in guitarists are represented heavily.  I like that.

Steve

2011 Gibson Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Studio...among others.
Beacon Theater, New York, May 18, 2013/Keeping The Blues Alive at Sea, Feb. 17-21, 2015/3 Kings Tour, Bangor, ME, Aug. 12, 2015

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Off the top of my bald head.....Joe Bonamassa.....Jimi Hendrix....Stevie Ray Vaughn....Lance Lopez.....Eric Clapton.....all play the gitfiddle very well

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Yes...I mentioned earlier that looking over the posts, Joe seems to be in some pretty good company...Like the greatest Rock artists ever...Just think what might have happened if Joe was born in the 40's or 50's

Let's see if Joe was born in the forties or fifties he would be in his fifties or sixties!
Oh and probably a household name!

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Boy what a tough question! Only including those I've seen in person:

All Timers:

Joe
BB
Buddy Guy (including w/Junior Wells)
Santana (1970's version)
Clapton
SRV

Current:

Joe B
Tedeschi Trucks (a group I really enjoy in person, Susan and Derek are awesome)
Robert Randolph (a killer live and jammin)
Walter Trout/Coco Montoya
Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Not crazy about lists, always fodder for arguing, but what the hell. Guitar players, not bands.

Jimi Hendrix
Joe Walsh
Robben Ford
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Joe Bonamassa

Had to include Joe B, or why would I be here???

...

There's very little arguing here in general, but I gave my list as it asked who you liked, not who you thought was best.

For those that like to argue, there's plenty to be had on TGP. :-)

Allman Brothers with Duane
Cream
Kossoff with Free
Hendrix
Bonamassa

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Women, whiskey and miles of travelin' is all I understand

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

Yes...It would be strange to leave Joe off the list...Kind of the whole reason I brought this topic up in the 1st place. Wanted to see what kind of company Joe would keep...and it's stellar...Just showing that Joe, is indeed, one of the greatest artists ever, regardless of popularity , name recognition, or album sales !

Re: Who's your Top 5 ??

1. Rush. Above and beyond they are the best. 3 hour shows with a huge catalog, stage setup, and they perform like monster musicians. Geddy's bass playing gets better with each passing year. There is simply no surpassing these boys when it comes to live performances.

2. Buddy Guy. A real class act who loves to interact with the crowd.

3. Foo Fighters. These guys are animals.

4. Def Leppard. Pure musicianship and Joe's well-oiled vocals make for an awesome show.

5. Joe. Haven't actually seen him live yet but he's a true gentleman blues player.
