Topic: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

Not sure if this should be in General but it's related to Jo's equipment.
At the moment, I am playing through a humble DSL40c.  A few years back, I had the DSL 401 that I sadly had to part with, along with all my guitars such as strats and a rather nice Gibson LP Standard.  Dark times...

The only thing I really miss about the DSL401 was really the spring reverb.  Other than that, it's a cracking amp for both the money.

My attention is now turning to bigger and better things however and the reissue Marshall Silver Jubilee keeps catching my eye (2555x currently).  I'm chasing tone inspired largely by Jo's at present and this seems like a way forward although since the man himself runs two amps at the same time, it's hard to judge.
It also seems like potentially a sound investment in terms of it at least retaining much of it's retail value.

Thoughts are greatly received on this!
Regards,
Jonathan

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

They are nice sounding amps that sound like no other Marshall.
I think a used Marshall JVM 50w head is more versatile and cheaper.
I could get close to Jube tone with mine.
I prefer NMV tone like a 1987X.
Lot's of OD pedals out there to get close to Jube tone and MORE.

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

I have not tried the rerelease but reliable sources tell me they kick ****. I was going to buy one but I have four original that my friend Alan has worked on and are unfreaking believable so no need for another. I would go for it. I am sure it will kick ****.
Happy shopping
Cheers Ron

I think I may just have too! Let's hope there are still some available once I can stump up the money! big_smile

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

Wish they had a 20 watt tube jubilee head. I'm shying away from 100 watters again. sad
Can't play bar gigs as easily. I'd like to go to a multi-amp setup with smaller wattage tube amps.

How about using an atenuator?

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

Had one. Got rid of it. It worked great, but all of it was too much to carry upstairs or back and forth to vehicles. It sounds like I need a roadie, and a bigger venue. So until that day comes, I might be back to using smaller stuff.

That's what stops me from getting one.  However, I do wander what the Lerxst Chi would be like.  It's 15 watt and based off a Jubillee.

Joe is the guy who has that experience to tell if that new jubilee really is worth the money, where's the man ?

Women, whiskey and miles of travelin' is all I understand

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

Does this new 2555x comes as a limited edition or they will be available for a longer time?

I'm thinking about buying one, but i can't find one to test anywhere, and i always try before buy.

If they are limited i think i will have to move fast and grab one, they will surely sound great, but if they will be available for a longer time i may have the chance to find one to try and compare to my current gear. And if it's special like it seems i will grab one. smile

Nic, they have the 25/50 watter Jubs. I forget the model number but the older Jubilees came in 25/50 or 50/100 Watt switchable power.  buddy of mine had the small head 25/50 and always played in 25W mode. it was killer.

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

I would love to try one of the Lerxst amps. But I doubt I'll ever see a demo sitting in my local music store.

The 50/25 watt model heads you guys mention are the big box 2550 and the small box is the 2553. Both are excellent as are the combos. I still have two of the 2x12 Jubilee combos (2558) that I pull out occasionally. I wish I still had a Jubilee head but I've sold them all. I would bet the new reissues will be good and if your inclined to buy one and can afford it, GO FOR IT!

Stay Safe Y'all!

Re: To Marshall Silver Jubilee or not to Marshall Silver Jubilee

I love playing the Marshall Jubillee..... model in my Axe-FX... big_smile

Seriously, if you love the tone but hate the weight of the amp and want to enjoy that cranked Marshall sound in an apartment or bedroom, the Axe-FX delivers in spades.  I just spent the day tweaking an 'Angus Young' patch on the unit using the Jubillee as the basis (I also tried the JTM45 and JCM800 as a base but they didn't seem as rich as the Jubillee).

Then when I feel like a change, I can pick up my Strat and dial in a Bassman for something completely different.

I know modellers sometimes get knocked on forums, but it may be worth thinking about something like the Axe-FX or Kemper to get the tones you want in a smaller/quieter package.
