Topic: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

I need ideas for songs for my set I'm putting together. I want to do acoustic guitar blues instrumentals. Some will be my own songs, here's an example:

But what I really need is some good covers to do.
I'm doing Palm trees, helicopters and gasoline, and also Ry Cooder's Feelin Bad Blues inspired by Joe's Guitar Center session. Also inspired by Joe, from one of his podcasts I'm doing Leo Kottke's Vaseline Machine Gun.
I'm doing my own slide versions of Kashmir and Oh Well.

Any other suggestions?

Someone heard me play Palm Trees, Helicopters and Gasoline and thought it was a Joni Mitchell song. Did Joni do any instrumentals?

Re: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

Hi Susie.  First I would like to say what a great start to that list.  A slide version of Kashmir?  Very interesting, same tuning?  There is a lot of water between us, any chance of a YouTube on that?

Just watched Beacon Hill.  Loved it!!  I could hear some inspiration in that song.

After seeing you play and looking at your current list I'm not so sure I could be any help.  But I will see if there is something I can come up with.

Re: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

Acoustic version of Hideaway... a standard, but for a reason.

If you can pull it off, Rude Mood is as awesome on acoustic as electric.

Re: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

Thanks for the Hideaway and Rude Mood suggestions Z
Steve, I play Kashmir in open E - I believe the original is in DADGAD but actually there's only 1 string different when you transpose up. Mine's a bit janglier and rhythmic. The slide bit is just for the middle eight where it gets all orchestral and twiddly - I might try developing that a bit as I go off piste at that point.

Steve, I should also say that I will be publishing more performance videos once I'm happy with my arrangements. Glad you liked Beacon Hill :-)

Re: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

Do you have a looper?  If so, that might open up a lot.

How good are you at improvising?  While existing songs are important, you might be able to fill a few minutes with an interesting improv'd blues.

Re: Suggestions for solo acoustic blues instrumentals

Thanks for the suggestions folks - Joanna Connor - wow!
I do have a looper and so could easily add some improv - in the style of Faux Martini maybe.

Just heard about BB King. Legend. I hope Joe is ok.
