Topic: Which Birth Year Les Paul to Buy?!

Hey all!
I've been looking around a bit, dreaming perhaps, but I'd love to grab myself a guitar manufactured in the year of my birth. But what to go for,  manufactured 1979...?
I see Normans has a Wine Red Custom Gibson Les Paul in at the moment.
The worrying thing for me is that living out in the UK, I'm most likely to have to buy online without getting to play the it.

Any advice of suggestions would be greatly received. Joe, perhaps you have some ideas if you're reading this!?

Regards,
Jonathan.

If you're buying online, and from the US, you're going to be paying alot for shipping, and then import taxes (20-25% plus processing fees).  It's probably going to make it really expensive.

Re: Which Birth Year Les Paul to Buy?!

that's a Norlan years.
volute on the back of the neck joint
pancake bodies (ie bodies are layered (aka glued) together like a stack of pancakes).
and Norlan's can be quite heavy as well.

it's hit and miss on whether you'll like it.
you'd be better off trying to find one locally and playing it.

secondhand Les Paul’s are not easy to find in the UK, - not sure where you are PayDay but a trip to Denmark Street is probably your best option, - but expect tourist prices.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Re: Which Birth Year Les Paul to Buy?!

I feared as much. My bud went out to Normans and bought a rather nice looking black LP. Think it has a 25 years logo on it.
Problem I find is that the good ones go quick.
Just to add to the above, it's not the import that worries me so much, it's the playability and the look. It's got to look the part. The construction doesn't worry so much in as much as the actual playability. I'm of he opinion, no matter what the are made from, some sing, and feedback to you through your belly, hands and arms and some just don't.
I'm in humble old Norwich, UK.
