I knew BB was not well, because he has been too quiet lately. How ever long he has left, best wishes to him for living those days in comfort. Hospice care is all about making the patient comfortable and giving the patient the best quality of life possible. Being a diabetic after many years affects other organs in your body, so BB seems to be wearing down.

Just to share what I've recently learned - The word hospice is like a big umbrella that covers many medical services and different treatment plans, whether the patient is in a facility or at the patient's home. One thing I know for sure - there are some wonderful and caring individuals who are in this line of work.

My own dad, who is 91, has been on home hospice since December. Hospice seems to have changed from what I previously thought.  I've shared some stories with others whose parents have been on hospice for 2 years. It individually depends on the patient's medical situation.  Some are terminally ill and they may have one major issue that is going to kill them, like cancer that has metastasized. But in other situations, there may be several declining health issues simply related to old age, that an aging patient can't fight anymore, so their end of life is close. Also, a home hospice situation is for those that want to die in their own home.

Good vibes being sent BB's way for a peaceful exit, whenever that may be...

Sorry,It's just that from what I know Hospice is for the terminally ill.At least from my own experience with family and friends.

I'm in agreement with Angela's take on this.

Re: Very sad news today......

I echo the sentiments of Angie and Lee also.

Really, all Mr. King needs are well wishes, and, if you are so inclined, prayers...and of course hope for the best possible health WITH maximum comfort.

While further touring may be completely out of the question (a presumption, not an assumption-there is a difference), and while the time for lauding the wide influence and many accomplishments of Riley is always appropriate, keep his life in the present tense as opposed to the passed [sic] tense, to avoid unecessary tension in the current situation.  Anyone who has seen BB perform in the last few years should know he is all too aware and seemingly quite comfortable with the approaching appointment. From that sure to be sad day for blues lovers worldwide (how blue can you get), he has asked one kind favor............until then,...

Very sad indeed. I'm so thankful I got to see him perform a couple years ago. I will forever cherish that memory. Well wishes to Mr. King

Same here, jumped at the chance to go see him, at the Royal Albert Hall as well.  I'm glad I got to see that.

My prayers go out to the Legend. I was hoping Joe would play a song of his last night but they stuck to the set list.

Sending up prayers for BB  and his family.  I was lucky to see him at a small blues fest in Evansville Indiana 1998 or so.  It was a gig to remember. Indigenous ,  Tower of Power,  Kenny Wayne Shepherd and BB as the Headliner.  Excellent. What a fantastic legacy. Most of all I sing his praises for helping all the up and comings especially some guy from upstate New York. His sound is one of a kind

Re: Very sad news today......

For those that don't know the term Hospice:

Hospice care is a type of care and philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a chronically ill, terminally ill .
Typically under 6mnths

He will continue to tour in our minds, and our ears,

Re: Very sad news today......

But still, he's not gone yet.  Seems kind of weird to be talking as if he had already passed.  Best of luck BB, hope you're being treated like the king you are.

Re: Very sad news today......

Things have taken a weird turn, good BB and read what is going on. Family says his manager is holding him hostage??

"Is it the new blues mobile or what?"                                                                                                                                                                                                     "Fix the cigarette lighter."

Re: Very sad news today......

Apparently, and this is 100% unconfirmable rumors mill from internet articles:
I heard his manager is telling BB that he is broke, yet he has $5million in the bank... so his manager wasn't getting him doctor or dental care as needed.

The other part of this is that big name friends are reaching out to him, and his daughter won't let anyone see or talk to BB. He's on lock down.

I ignore IF POSSIBLE rumors because of this very thread proving their unreliability.  I was unable to not read an exactly conflicting "rumor article headline" to what Nic describes while researching deeper personal knowledge of BB...

Remarkable.  He has the groove down and everything.  I saw a video of BB talking about Joe when he was a kid, and he was saying the blues is about timing and who know how the kids can feel it.  Obviously, Joe had it and this kid has it figured out.  Thanks for posting.  Get better BB.
