Topic: Long Summer Break

Hi folks,

I was just wondering about the long summer gap this time.
After the Spring US Tour at beginning of may until the 3 Kings Tour Beg. og august there is a
3 months break. Very untypical for Joe.

It is maybe too late to put on festivals in Europe or even an additional european tour as happened last year.

Maybe recording a new album or the new RCFP records comes out in Summer and they do a small US
Club tour?
Or the new Beth thing...
or really just rest and doin' a nice Summer vacation in Majorca?
No not quite Joe's thing

just thinking about it...

Re: Long Summer Break

They are taking a well deserved break. Joe typically works only one month in the summer. Sometimes June sometimes July and for this year it is August with the Three Kings tour. Last year Spring lasted till late May however this May ends mid month. Joe keeps a grueling tour schedule and it is hard on everyone involved. He has built a worldwide following and he could tour year round but band and crew and most of all Joe needs to recharge his batteries. Sorry to see him this Summer you will have to travel state side.

Re: Long Summer Break

I'd actually like to see Joe take an extended break.  There's been so much material lately that there is little to no anticipation between projects and tours.  Creativity usually seems to benefit from time off too.  I hope he lies low for awhile.

"Oh baby, since you're gone, I got a massa the blues!"

Re: Long Summer Break

Glad to see some well deserved time off!!!! But this is Joe and company we are talking about, should be real interesting where they all just magically appear! LOL

Re: Long Summer Break

Happy Joe and that tireless crew are taking a breather. He never has a guitar far from his hands so.....
We in SoCal will be listening for those jungle drums signaling the special sit ins and maybe a RCFP residency at the Spud again. big_smile big_smile cool

Re: Long Summer Break

Well Joe, if you are in the Nashville area, we are only a two hour drive up the highway.   We live in the home of Blue Grass great Bill Monroe so come on up and bring a mandolin.

Re: Long Summer Break

I worry so much that Joe will drive himself into the ground with his frenetic schedule.  As much as we die to see him as often as humanly possible, we have to treat him like the treasure he is and remember to allow for regeneration.  He has to take good care of himself so he's around until I'm permanently in the ground myself!

I need some Joe...NOW.
Joe = Joy

Re: Long Summer Break

I hope that Joe has enough energy to get through this hard schedule in the next year/s. He often daily has an evening to perform (more than two hours without break) in this Spring Tour. In my opinion it would be better to give him more days off generally, f.e. Beth Hart has one day off till the next gig. Only Joe knows if it is necessary or would be better or isn't practicable because of the costs or other circumstances. There must be a well dosed life / work balance to prevent burnout.

I'm a big bluegrass fan and enjoy it when artists step outside their normal realm.  I would love to hear Joe play some bluegrass guitar/mandolin/banjo with a few other bluegrass players, just to see what he could bring to the table.

Heck, I'd love to see Joe do something with Bela Fleck...wouldn't be bluegrass obviously, but Joe wouldn't have to step too far out of what he normally plays.

Re: Long Summer Break

According to interview in the Detroit Free Press, that I have posted in the interview thread,   Joe will be working on a new album this summer,  a " bluesy " album,  which is my fav kind of Joe album.

How about Joe and the Carolina Chocolate Drops

Re: Long Summer Break

Yeah.
A new album. That's what I thought too.

And in between he will do some shows e.g. the cool NYC HRC show with satch
and I hope some RCFP shows to promote the new album as well.
Maybe LA and NYC. Europe... hmmm sadly maybe not
Then I have to fly to the US when time and money allow

Re: Long Summer Break

According to that interview, Joes thinking the album will be more bluesy, as already stated. He said might be a stripped down 4 piece depending on what material they come up with. He also made it seem as if the album will be out this fall by the time the fall tour starts which would make sense.

My thoughts..... I hope to see One less Cross to Bear on the new album, which I would be surprised if it's not. Two, I appreciate the bluesy side of Joe and the rock side as well. The majority of Joes albums tend to be a good mixture of both for me so hopefully that won't change.
