Love to know how the shows were and the band lineup....very curious
Any news from the Montreal shows ? Dying to hear the band lineup and setlist...Anyone out there on the forum who went ? Someone give me somethin'..
Couldn't believe that no one has answered you yet, so I decided to register today. April 9th Montreal show was fantastic, although extremely loud, which we often find with the Salle Wilfred Pelletier venue in general. In spite of that, it was the first time we have seen Joe live and didn't regret it for a second. Band lineup was as follows: Tal Bergman on drums, Reese Wynans on keyboards, Carmine Rojas on bass, Dan Sadownick on percussion, Lee Thornburg on trumpet, Pauly Cerra on sax and Nick Lane on trombone. The set started with Hey Baby intro (Hendrix cover) and then into Oh Beautiful, and the last 2 songs were Sloe Gin and John Henry. They returned for an encore which we were not familiar with, but I believe the entire set list was a copy of his London concerts in March.

The Master was in Montreal
I just returned from Joe’s tonight’s concert at Place-des-Arts in Montreal. It was just perfect. From the first song, Hey Baby (New Rising Sun) to the last one, Mean Old Frisco, Joe showed all his talent. This concert was a fiesta for the ears and for the eyes and the band was in a great shape.
The sound was really good, without exaggerating Tal Bergman’s drums and keeping them in balance with the rest of the band. Carmine Rojas’ melodic base carried the Master’s riffs and solos, from tiny tones to the fireworks and was heard in details.
Lee Thornburg and his horn section were excellent, clean and well defined. Reese Wynans on his B3 and other keyboards was just great.
Joe surprised me more than once. I knew him as “Smokin’ Joe”, although he played with subtlety in many songs, but during this concert, he showed what he was capable of. For me, the discovery of the evening was “John Henry”. This is the song we all know very well, but for some time, Joe used the Theremin in his live appearances. Although this experience was interesting, I preferred the version I heard during this show. This was probably the song where Joe showed all he knew – power, finesse, great technique and sensitivity. I saw the people after the show, and everybody had two things in common: excitement and satisfaction. When shall we see Joe again in Montreal?

I can just add: This show was a mix of songs from Joe's last studio album, Different Shades of Blue, and his last live album, Muddy Wolf at Red Rock, which means recent songs mixed with some well known blues standards, such as Double Trouble. When speaking about Double Trouble, Reese Vynans (former member of Stevie Ray Vaughan's band Double Trouble) was amazing.
Joe played mostly on his different Les Pauls, except two songs on Strat and also a few songs on Gibson 335 and all was driven by Fender Tweed amps. I was sitting near the sound boot and I was surprised that the technician used Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 connected to his laptop. This is a nice device (I use it, too for my recordings) but never could imagine Joe's staff could use it.
BTW, I tried to get "Muddy Wolf" CDs signed by Joe for my sick relative and even asked the sound man, but avail. The guy was nice and tried to contact other members of staff, but nothing without the manager. So, I started the show quite sad, but as Joe started playing, I changed the mood.
Still - anybody has an idea how to get Joe's signature? My relative is heavily sick and unfortunately I had no answers neither from Joe (FB), nor from his company (email).
Well, I happen to know a little about the signature thing...I have several...Become a street team member, do some promo work , document it, and ask to be on the meet and greet list...that would be my advice...and thanks for the show review...look forward to seeing him in 4 weeks

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the next time Joe comes to Montreal, it might be too late for my sick relative.

Getting in the Meet and Greet as Murfdog says would of been the way to do it and as he says there is a Street Team which would allow you to get a spot. Facebook is not the best way to communicate with Joe's team since there is so much activity there it is hard to keep up with it all. Here is the place to come for special request that sometimes can be honored. There is just so much going on show days. The production crew are busy with their jobs at hand and it is tough for them to try to get something that seems so easy accomplished but in reality not so easy to track down Joe and ask him to sign something and bring it back out. PM me and I'll see if I can help you out.
