Re: Tal or Anton ?

Saw a video on utube of the show at Radio City Music Hall. During a run, it appeared Tal knocked a stick out his hand and had to grab another one.  Breaking a stick happens all the time, but I can't remember seeing a professional at this level ever having sticks collide, knocking one to the floor. Does not make Tal a bad drummer, I just remember it caught my eye and it surprised me.  Maybe some of you that know more about the drums, than I do can give more insight.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Tal or Anton ?

I've seen them all. Liked them all a lot...

Insight on drumming?  Looks so damn easy, don't it.  Til you try it...

I saw Buddy Rich in a small club a few times when I was in my teens.  One show my Dad managed seats next to the drum kit - we were dodging broken sticks all night - I still have one tucked away.

Like Rocket said - it isn't as easy as it looks (I know, I tried).  I have liked all of Joe's drummers - they all bring something a little different to the table but they are all excellent and awesome.

Love Bogie! Love Tal! Love Anton!  3 Really Great Drummers!

In reference to Tal's sticks colliding ???    During "The Borderline" show Anton's kick drum pedal fell apart while he was playing,   it's called life, s*** happens.....  wink

I agree with Rocket, "Looks so damn easy, don't it. Til you try it..."  I took a two week crash course in college on drums.....YIKES!!!!!

Gee, I feel a little bad that I left out Bogie in my unofficial poll...Quite a few fans still out there...He was outstanding...and a really nice guy !

Re: Tal or Anton ?

The best drum sound I've ever heard (yes, I know, it's all very relative) from any of Joe's live shows is from his Shepherd's Bush Empire show of 3-29-07 (it's for sale in the JB store).  I'm not a trained drummer, but Bogie's sound was absolutely perfect.  Every time I listen to it, it gives me a charge - the whole show is completely kick **** - Joe's tone never sounded better to me either.  Besides, I loved hearing the way Joe would say "Mr. Bogie Bowwwwwwwles"!

"Oh baby, since you're gone, I got a massa the blues!"

Re: Tal or Anton ?

how about both Bogie Bowles (sp?) and Anton Fig (from 1st Royal Albert Hall dvd)

however, just by himself I will pic Tal - nothing against the others, each is excellent.

Re: Tal or Anton ?

if it comes to sophisticated drumming Bogie is the man.

Re: Tal or Anton ?

I will also pick Bogie.  Didn't really notice how great a drummer he is, until I seen him live.  Almost forgot I was there to see Joe that night!

Re: Tal or Anton ?

Love Bogie, Anton and Tal.  For different reasons.  My dream band would have all three.  But have a big soft spot for Tal and his animated way of playing
