Breaking a stick happens all the time, but I can't remember seeing a professional at this level ever having sticks collide, knocking one to the floor. Does not make Tal a bad drummer, I just remember it caught my eye and it surprised me. Maybe some of you that know more about the drums, than I do can give more insight.
I saw Buddy Rich in a small club a few times when I was in my teens. One show my Dad managed seats next to the drum kit - we were dodging broken sticks all night - I still have one tucked away.
Like Rocket said - it isn't as easy as it looks (I know, I tried). I have liked all of Joe's drummers - they all bring something a little different to the table but they are all excellent and awesome.
