Sitting here watching Tour de Force Albert Hall show and it got me thinking..Which drummer do you like best or prefer and why ? Just an informal poll ? I like Tal's Bonham like style, but Anton is sooo good...Hard to decide...Just wondering what others thought.
Both are great !
But I would pick Tal for his stage presence.
I will also state I am by no means an expert on drumming.
I honestly could not tell you who is a better drummer.Its like a lot of things it sometimes just comes down to a difference in style.
Both are great. Never disappointed to see either. I probably lean towards Anton, think he has the best left hand in the business. As Gary said, it probably comes down to the style you like. What I found interesting is some of the comments that Kevin has made. My guess is he is defiantly in the Anton camp.
I'd prefer Bogie over both of them! Come back Bogie! Don't beat me up now, but Tal just doesn't bring the fire or excitement that I perceived with Bogie or even somewhat with Anton. I don't see or hear much of this Bonham thing in Tal's playing either that I've heard mentioned before. And each live show I've seen with Tal has left me unfulfilled in the drum sound category. For whatever reason (dvds excluded), Tal's live sound has come across as weak or unbalanced to me. Yes, it all comes down to preference.

I don't know, they're both great. I'd say Anton on the records and Tal live... Tal has that showmanship factor.
I personally liked Tal live better than Bogie, but they're both excellent.

... or Tony Cintron (A.N.D.Y.). I know most folks never got to see the original JBB with Tony & Creamo Liss (bass), but that was an awesome band to watch live. Glad I had a chance to catch this lineup before Eric & Kenny filled their spots.
Bogie! Don't get me wrong, I love Tal and Anton, but there was something about Bogie that grabbed me from the first time I saw him.
Well, anyone that knows me, knows that Tal is my man for drumming 
Of course, I came late to Joe's world so I never saw Bogie live or any of the others and therefore can't make any comparisons. Anton, of course, technically is an excellent drummer, or else Kevin wouldn't always want him on the special projects, but for me, Tal brings such a positive energy and vibe to a show. I have heard him perform in a variety of different genres since he has posted a number of the projects he has worked on and it shows he has a lot of diversity in his skills as a musician.

I know the endless debate over the subject, but that original 3 piece was something special...That Rockpalast DVD is incredible..Like a freight train !!!
no that was Kenny and Eric. I think there is some live footage of the others on youtube
of course I love me some Kenny Kramme but was trying to stick mostly to the Tal vs Anton debate.
I also wanted to try to clarify I do appreciate all the stuff Anton has done with Joe and of course some of my favorite songs on Joe's records had him. I would dig to known what went down in the studio. I got the impression that with DSOB it had more of an Anton mark but really don't know much about it.
My husband really digs Tal and doesn't say much about any of it but when he sees Tal he can't resist commenting. I sure can't resist smiling when I see him myself. Can't wait until the next time live in concert but I can't deny I fantasize about experiencing Anton live with Joe. Especially if the next album is like DSOB. I am not sure another drummer could do it all justice really.As far as technical stuff i don't know but they are all great. i mean really before getting into Joe's music I did not focus much on individual musicians, i tended to experience it as a band or a song sort of thing. i know that mixing it up bit with Joe has been necessary business wise and from what i recall Kevin saying to keep the music fresh etc but it is hard to stop wondering what a band like Krammenczar could have accomplished had circumstances been different etc. Just as I wonder about Bogie in the studio etc. and so on
I see Bogie recently posted he looked forward to getting back to more drumming when he graduates so I really look forward to hearing more about it.

I'm interested in the fact that there seem to be more Anton fans than I expected...By the way...Who is drumming on the north american leg of the tour...Tal, I assume?
Bogie all the way! Miss his drummin'!
They're both very technically brilliant drummers. My feelign is that the style of Tal's playing, his look overall (long hair and leather gloves), and the harsh sound of his drums makes me feel he is better suited to Joe's 'rock' material rather than the blues stuff. Therefore I have always thought that Anton was better suited to the blues material - ie The Muddy Wolf, Beth Hart stuff.
The thing I always find interesting about Anton though is that on Albert Hall (2009), Tour De Force: The Borderline, Live in Amsterdam and Muddy Wolf he openly uses drum music. I have often wondered why that is? Does he not give himself enough time to fully learn the material? Does he want to make sure the parts are DEAD on?

Anton - more feeling, although Tal is good too. However, I am with the Bogie fans here...his style suited perfectly and his drumming came right from the heart.
Kenny Kramme from the Bar circuit was good. And I really liked Bogie. Tal is a good guy.
I've known about Anton since the Ace Frehley solo record and Frehley's comet. I'd love to sit and talk to him about those days.
My take is Tal is great when it comes to Joe's usual electric set. However, I think Anton is a better fit for such projects as Muddy Wolf and the upcoming Three Kings concerts.
