Topic: Strawberry Fields/Central Park
A fellow Clapton fan (LaylaLayla aka blonde rocker) made this post after walking through Central Park the other night. I think people hang in the park for a couple of days around John's birthday.
"Last night we stopped in Central Park on our way to see John Mayall and Dave Mason (more about that later).
It was John Lennon's birthday.
First we passed the Dakota apartment building, which I've passed a few hundred dozen times, but last night was different. For those of you who have never visited the "crime scene", the place where John was murdered is a small walkway leading from the street to a gate where the doorman stands. We stood for a few seconds and I started to get a bit choked up, how this tiny space of concrete changed the lives of so many people, and on so many levels. My friend sensed my body language and put his hand around me, just as another friend had put his hand around me over 20 years ago. I told my friend of a comment my 15 year old god-daughter, who has become a great fan of The Beatles, said to me about a year ago, about Mr. Lennon. She said, "He was just geting started". I enjoy "growing" young blond rockers!
Then we entered Central Park.
There was a nice crowd of people, of all ages...Even young fans with polished pink faces, lots of older Lennon fans, and a few homeless people. Perhaps we had disturbed their living quarters, but they didn't seem to mind the singing and guitar playing. Every one of us, young and not so young, knew every word (and harmony parts) to every song. There were at least 4 guitarists, one drummer, and a few other assorted instruments. My harmony parts were on key and I sang my heart out. My friend gazed at me, and told me I was "glowing", and I was. Music, is my tonic, like most of us here.
We stayed a while and then made our way to BB Kings to see EC's old boss, Mr. Mayall and Dave Mason. Review to follow later, you see, the Blond Rocker was making rather merry last night and slept with EC's book. A late and great night indeed.
Here's a pic from Stawberry Fields, and because of Mrs. Lennon's generousity, the monument probably will be there forever!"
The photo can't paste in, but its flowers and candles on the Imagine mosaic in Central Park. Also, Clapton just released an Autobiography on John's birthday...that's the book refered to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawberry_Fields_memorial
I was looking around for video of John sitting at the white piano singing Imagine as Eva had mentioned and found this clip. John was very human with imperfections just like all of us...he had his good days and his bad days...all coincided with his new attitude...John was really just Starting Over. He would want to be remembered for wanting and really believing in peace!
Peace and Jam as Millhouse says!!
