Re: This guy "gets it"

for a blog posted 31st March 2015 I think that he has missed the point by some six months or so. The debate over Joe’s £110 price  was about his Hammersmith Odeon shows that have just taken place, and it was at the point of tickets going on sale that the opinions came out. - The shows that Joe recently announced for the Uk, (Brighton etc) the ticket price has come down considerably. Hence: problem over, why go back over it again?

.... and IMHO comparing Joe with Ed Sheeran, 1Direction, Rolling Stones, U2 etc is also missing the issue by miles. These are mainstream commercial artists backed by some of the largest corporations in the world (global budgets) with £millions spent on PR and marketing, - Joe still has a street team!

... and finally most of the “beating up” that I heard was not directed at Joe, but rather his management.

Re: This guy "gets it"

All the complaining in the world is not going to change ticket prices.
IMO, the only thing that will change ticket prices (in either direction) is actual ticket sales (or the lack thereof).

Re: This guy "gets it"

Many good points, the one that always gets me is, people that say they could go to several other shows for the price of a Joe concert.  Then go and quit whining and complaining.  I could go to McDonald's 10 times for the price of going to Ruth Crist's Steak House. I prefer a good steak to kangaroo burgers, but hey, that's just me.  I'm afraid we have become a society of complainers, where everyone is "owed" something.  If people could only see or hear how ugly they are while complaining, maybe they would stop.
And yes I get the irony, I'm complaining about complainers.  It's a dirty job...

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

well Bill over here in the UK (and this blog is about the UK so to be able to be judgmental on it you would need to understand the cost of living issues here) clearly the lack of ticket sales (or perhaps complaint) DID change things, - it brought ticket prices down from £110 to £65.

bobkatmsu, you get some of it right with what happened over here by saying that you can go to other shows, and I did as did many others, Rival Sons, Gary Clark Jr and Temperance Movement all three shows for the price of what Joe was asking for Hammersmith. I made my choice, but please do not go insulting myself and MANY other long standing Joe fans who baulked at the expected cost of £110 per ticket for a low grade venue. Those of my friends who did go only went for one night, - work it out, - Joe’s management screwed up and then had to spend a fortune on promotion to fill the seats.

it is not about and never was about being “owed something”, but when an artist has a street team where people give up time and put in effort to promote that artist they do not charge ticket prices the same as a band like the Foo Fighters who take residency at Letterman to launch an album.

Here is a thought, - people complain if they care, - and they want something to be put right. And as I said, thankfully Joe’s team put it right with his Autumn stadium tour, so this debate should NOT be happening again, - it divides.

Let’s all celebrate the music and the live performance from a hard working player at the top of his game. I am really looking forward to seeing Joe again in Brighton and taking my son who first saw him in 2009. Be superior and condescending if you like but I could not justify one months food shopping for my family to go see him at Hammersmith last month.

Re: This guy "gets it"

Ian, my point was that, in general, most artists would like to sell tickets at the highest price they can get. If nobody shows up, they know the price was too high and the prices for subsequent shows likely get dropped. Based on your comments, it appears that's what happened.

The fans drive the ticket prices. Sporting events here in the states are ridiculous. Why? There are lots of people that have no issue spending huge sums of money for tickets. The average fan cannot afford to regular games, never mind attending a major event such as a Super Bowl or World Series. Those tickets go for thousands of dollars.
There is a practical limit to what I'll spend on ticket, but I don't blame the athletes, owners or musicians for getting whatever the market bears.
