awesome!
what kind of wood is that?
beautiful design
It's 3 different types of wood. Legs are mahogany, small middle support piece is cherry and the neck and U holder are from an ancient piece of maple that came from a type of frame with springs of a canopy bed that's been in my family since the 1700's. I think the springs were probably added in the late 1800's since it originally had a peg and rope support system for the mattress. The springs sagged so much I removed it and added a modified plywood base for the mattress to fit over the pegs. I have been using the wood from the spring's frame in different projects. The grain is so tight and dense. Probably more info than you needed to know but that piece of wood is so interesting to me and if the springs were made in the 1800's then the tree it came from was no doubt a very old maple (maybe 100 -200 years old) since everything was old growth back in those days.

WOW! Thanks for taking the time to share about the wood. I LOVE when precious bits are re-purposed like this. You are a gal of many talents and much creativity! I have a real appreciation for special wood, from working with antique wood boats, here in Tahoe.

Does being on the forum all the time count as a hobby or does that fall in the obsessing catagory?

I vote obsessing. Guilty as well.
I on occasion, like to build model aircraft, and model F1 cars - at the moment i'm building a Spitfire MkII from a Balsa Wood Kit. It's totally engrossing - I love it!
Since discovering the wonders of chalk paint a few years ago I am an obsessive renovator. If fact, if something gets put down for longer than a couple of hours around me it might get made over.
It is one of the reasons I am currently searching for a bigger place. I need more workspace!
Funny thing is when I told german friends that I was 'distressing' stuff, they misunderstood and thought I meant 'de-stressing', as in kicking back a little. They thought the renovating was my way of relaxing. Now they bring me their $hit thinking they are helping me 'de-stress' and it just makes me more distressed! Aaaaaahh!
All good fun though. Now is festival time though, no time for anything other than obsessing about music and rehearsing. 2 gigs this weekend, 2 different bands....so little time, so many lyrics.........
Well, when I find time to stop dribbling over guitars, I like to go do aerial filming...
Here's one of my videos:

I just got a 360 degree camera too so experimenting a lot with that. I have a track day coming up so might try it out in the car!
