Re: King King - feat. Alan & Stevie Nimmo

Good to see them coming to Aberdeen. Hopefully they'll get a good crowd after The Nimmo Brothers fireworks last week! Supporting John Mayall should also help.

Re: King King - feat. Alan & Stevie Nimmo

£15 to see King King and Laurence Jones at the Borderline? Now that's what I call the bargain of the century.

Wish I could understand it Walter! I saw them a couple of nights later in Augsburg. The venue was unfortunately not full - it was the Sunday of a holiday weekend here in Germany, so I'm sure that didn't help. But the band of course still put in maximum enthusiasm and effort and soon got the crowd going. Fantastic evening and we had a chance for a chat with them after the show - such nice guys! smile

They were absolutely brilliant in Aberdeen tonight. I enjoyed it as much as Joe, that's how good they are. The encore was The thrill is gone and featured Stevie Nimmo, Laurence Jones & Roger Innes. Superb!!!!!

Re: King King - feat. Alan & Stevie Nimmo

Wife and I have tickets to see them in Bromsgrove in November, sold out show, and about 4 miles from our house which is an unusual bonus! I'll report back, I'm looking forward to this gig a lot.

Re: King King - feat. Alan & Stevie Nimmo

As promised, reporting back after my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing King King for the first time last night at the Bromsgrove Artrix Theatre.

First off, Ben Poole supported and whilst he is undoubtedly a great player, his tone/sound was at times really shrill (Telecaster) and frankly the whole thing was way too loud. I had been looking forward to seeing him, but I'll be honest, he didn't grab me like I had hoped. Maybe he was the victim of a bad mix, I don't know, but have to be honest and say I was sadly pleased when he finished.

Now to King King. The music was outstanding, superb musicianship from all four guys on stage. The sound was perfect, the mix exceptional and the tone Alan Nimmo got from a fairly simple Buddha Head and Orange small cab was perfect. Bob Fridzema on the Hammond was different class too and was given plenty of rapport from the audience for his work, encouraged several times by Nimmo as he clearly wanted his bandmate to get his just adulation.

But what got me the most was the sheer enthusiasm and passion that came across from Nimmo. He wasn't too well (man flu), but despite this, he played and sang superbly, ably backed by outstanding award-nominated musicians and they totally brought the house down. This was an all-seater venue, but his infectious Scottish charm, unbridled desire and energy, aided by that cheeky smile that somehow makes you smile back, got the whole audience up clapping and dancing. Absolutely brilliant stuff, from start to finish.

Love the music, love the show and this ranks as one of the best live performances of any band that I've ever seen.

Lastly, as my wife and I were wearing our JB T-shirts we got at the Mr Kyps gig, a few people came to chat with us to talk about Joe. One guy said he found out about King King from this very forum, although doesn't post much. I can't remember your name, but recall you traveled up from Gloucester and I just wanted to say "nice to meet you" and hope you enjoyed the show as much as my wife and I did. Hope you had a safe trip back. :-)

Yep, tickets booked for Gloucester Guild Hall! Birmingham would be ideal, but it's a Saturday and my own band have a gig that night.

Word is, King King are recording a show in April (Denmark or Switzerland) for a Live CD/DVD release in September.

Breaking new ground, they're appearing at an Blues Festival in India next month.

Yeah, Alan told me after the Gun concert in Glasgow that they were thinking of a live album before the next studio one. Hope there are no delays from their Mumbai gig as they support Thunder in Nottingham next day.
