Re: Joe tells how to set up a Les Paul, featuring The Beast

Was funny to hear him say "spend a fiver"  and  "they only cost twenty quid" lol

Even though it's nothing new to me really, I do love watching videos like that.

Re: Joe tells how to set up a Les Paul, featuring The Beast

Step 1: get or borrow historic Les Paul
Step 2: new strings & setup the way you like it
Step 3: change nothing else
Step 4: MELT FACES!

I don't believe that combo is readily available in stores. Ernie ball has a set with those gauges on their website but I'm not sure if they are the ones with a wound G. I read or heard that Joe gets the 7 string pack with that combo and just leaves off the high e string.

I have just started experimenting with a wound g on a les paul. Love the feel and love how it stays in tune better.

Guitars: Gibson 2015 LP Traditional in Honeyburst, Gibson LP Studio Deluxe, Fender American Deluxe Telecaster, MIM Fender Strat with Dimarzio Areas, MIM Fender Hss Strat,  Epiphone Sheraton II, Breedlove Acoustic
Amplitube 4 with Scarlett 6i6 and 2i4 interfaces through studio monitors.

But they still have a wound 3rd

Re: Joe tells how to set up a Les Paul, featuring The Beast

funnily in the 50's strings came with a wound 3rd and Eddie Cochran swapped his for a 2nd so he could bend the strings. When he came to England he passed his tip on to Joe Brown amongst others.

Yeah thats the set I thought he uses. I might have seen it in a rig rundown with his tech.

As far as the G, I have been using an 18w for the g. Its going to be a deal lighter then then 24 that comes in the 7 string pack.  Im going to have to order a pack of the 7 strings because my local Guitar Center doesn't carry them.

Looking at this older post Kyle comprised a list of Joe's post and joe said he uses Dean Markley 11-52??

Re: Joe tells how to set up a Les Paul, featuring The Beast

Dean Markley strings is the 2000-2003 variety. I think he moved to ErnieBall some time in 2004/2005. That was right around when I started following him more closely.
