Yes, Cathy, Rocky & Lady were at the Vienna lunch meeting in Vienna.  Some of us met them the night before at an outdoor cafe.  Very nice people, but we've come to expect that!  Give them a hello Eurohug from Rocket for me please darlin' big_smile  Thanks!

It was so long ago now I'd kinda forgotten who was who but thanks for the kind words Rocket. I do remember you now Cathy, it would be a pleasure to catch up with you again.

How do you know 121 Brits are coming to the cruise? Is there a list somewhere with nationalities on it? wink We're flying across to MIA on the Monday, so arriving around 5pm. One night on South Beach (no idea what we're going to do but hey ho) and then a cab to the port for 12:00 on Tuesday.

I keep having this recurring dream of bumping into JB late at night on deck and then intently talking guitars/amps and stuff, as you do.... I start explaining we've "come all the way from England" and remortgaged the children to make it (close to the truth) - he then takes pity and invites me to join him, Robben Ford and Robert Cray for a jam in his room. My dear wife doesn't come into this of course. He hands me his '59 LP for a moment and as if overcome by some form of ghostly spirit, I just play like I have never played before and completely blow him away, he's in awe. He wants to jam more when he's in the UK so we can learn from one another. We swap numbers and are pals for life.

I then wake up and realise that this is utterly ridiculous of course. Robert Cray isn't on the cruise..... wink

Look forward to meeting some of you again (and Ron) in 12 days time.

I found the map on the KTBA Cruise FB page. https://www.facebook.com/bluesaliveatse … mp;theater   I don't know if the link works, but it's a world map posted December 2. wink

Never done a cruise before. Any veterans have recommendations for the excursions on this one?

I'm hoping there will be new vinyl available at the onboard store, since the website has been out for a while. I only managed to get 4 albums before they were gone.

well i picked up a voyager guitar should be hear by next Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how it plays. I am spoiled rotten with all my beautiful ladies. I guess it will be better for that to be possibly messed up bringing it to the cruise as appose to bringing one of my high end pieces.

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

Never tried the Voyager. I have a Traveler guitar that works okay in a pinch, but the action on it is less than stellar and it's shape doesn't make it sit very comfortably. It looks like the Voyager will be better on feeling like a "regular" guitar. I need to work on the setup for the action on mine or sell it.
I don't travel regularly except to visit family where I'm from and I've decided next time I fly there I will leave a guitar with my sister smile

Good luck with the new guitar smile

Cool! New toys are always fun, even if not as precious as the existing ones. smile

I wonder if the strings are more likely to break due to strain hardening, as they get fully slackened and folded into a loop when the neck is folded. I'd bring a few sets.

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

Didn't realise there were so many variety's from Voyager.  Our local shops don't carry them, so no chance to try one out.  Still hope to pick something up once I arrive.

Current forecast for Sunday, Feb. 15, the day I fly out...SNOW!

Hey, they've been wrong before!

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

Just wondering about cell service at sea. I have Verizon and can get international package added but wondered if it was even needed there was an app to download for messaging through the ships wifi network for keeping in touch at sea. Really don't want to talk to shore that week but you know emergencies at work can happen. Any experience from anybody?

Check the Cruise Line ships faq's. When inport, you will be able to use your cell at international roaming rates ($$$) Ships have wireless broadband satellite links at $$$ rates. I sell and service these systems. They are expensive and the airtime markup aboard is substantial, but you can communicate if needed. Cost to the ship for airtime is about a buck a minute so you can figure on at least double that. You will have to use the ship's own phone for calls since smartphone apps clog bandwidth aboard. They will issue a personal PIN for calling against your CC. IDK about inship wireless.
IF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR SMARTPHONE, PUT IT IN AIRPLANE MODE SO YOU DON'T INCUR CHARGES AGAINST APPS YOU HAVE THAT RUN IN THE BACKGROUND! I could tell you horror stories. It's a profit center with huge income for the ship. They don't care if you didn't know.

Excellent advice Rick!  If not in airplane mode, your device continues to search for a communication tower or asundry data links ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE, even if you have no programs on or runing in the background or are not even logged into your device (but off IS OFF!).

Note that with the advent of in-flight wifi, airplane mode no longer means "all radios off." At least on iPhones, you can turn on airplane mode and then turn wifi back on.

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

My plan is likely a bit different here in the north, but I think the phones features will be the same.  When travelling I am able to turn off my data roaming.  I have an iphone 5S, my 4S had it too.  Just a feature to save on roaming data charges.  The data will work only when you have WiFi.  And there is "cellular at sea" http://www.wmsatsea.com/ , most if not all the ships have it now.  I have both made and received calls while sailing with good reception and the cost was not crazy.  I was always certain to make the calls short and few.

As we pack and prep to leave out on Sunday, I wish you all safe and happy travels! Be careful out there. Hopefully we'll able to have some meets and greets of our own! Bless you all! Mark and Nannette.

So far s. Florida has been lovely. Mid 70's and cold at night. It looks like temps won't be above 80 at any time. We could have rain in Nassau, so day trips may be dampened, pun intended. No matter. This is going to be fun!! Ft Lauderdale ,Riverwalk Blues Fest is this coming weekend. Albert Castiglia is closing Sunday. I'm hoping to catch that.
