Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

Very excited now, flights booked, hotel booked in Miami Beach for the night before and finances wrecked - but it'll be worth it!

Would love to bring my Les Paul, to play it but mainly in the hope I could ask JB to sign it, but as we're coming over from the UK it's pretty much impractical/impossible.

If any of you guys we met in Vienna are going, Lisa and I would love to meet you all again.

In fact, we'd love to meet any of you. I'd like to meet Ron just to shake his hand (for being a very nice person), we're going to be a long way from home so if anyone organises a meet up, please say so. smile

I will definitely take you up on that, it'd be a pleasure to finally meet you and talk "all about the music". That said, I'm British (and thus awfully reserved) and would feel ill at ease knocking your cabin door at any old time without prior planning and agreement. It'd be worse if you weren't at home when I knocked as well haha. Hopefully we can work something out to suit, cocktails on me sir.

Sounds like a plan to me - cheers

In case anyone is still trying to bring a guitar they can carry on a plane easily: http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-DSP-VOYVER1TV

I had heard of this company (they went on the US tv show "shark tank"), but didn't know they made electrics too.

If you came to the lunch meeting in Vienna then we've met. I had the "Bona-Who" buttons. I'll be wearing one the first day. Once we're in our rooms and settled we should meet on deck before or during Ana's show.

I have two ladies coming from London Sunday night as well. smile Maybe you'll be on the same plane. There are 121 Brits coming, so maybe the entire plane is going smile smile I'm still looking for music the night before.

Ron, I look forward to meeting you wink

The threshold for me would be irreplaceable. I'd be ok bringing something moderately expensive, if having it with me makes the experience better. And worst case, I run the risk of having to replace it. But if it's not replaceable, gone is gone.

But with a boat-load of guitarists (literally!), I would absolutely bring a guitar that wouldn't kill me to lose. And GAS almost demands that it be an acquisition, new or used. :-)

For an amp I'd go iRig into iPad, Bluetooth to Bose Soundlink. That would be cabin friendly, and not require an outlet for noodling on deck by the pool. :-)

Of course this is just like speculating how I'll spend lottery winnings, as I'm not going.

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea reports (start page 6)

I wonder if Joe is going to be their guitar tech? lol

I've talked to Colin and we're going to have a make your own Ded Nugents tee shirt contest. The prize will not be anything big, I'm still working on that. Please join in. I'll have some things with me to help decorate shirts if you want to make yours on board.

Ron and Tim, IMO you are both very smart to advise/decide to leave such valuable items at home.  I know it's tempting, but reminds me of a guy that just picked up a brand new car and insisted on driving it next day on a long road trip when he knew a major blizzard was coming, or my girlfriend who just HAD to take ALL her best gold jewelry on vacation...  just isn't using common sense.  Sure doesn't seem worth exposing Skinner to more risk than necessary.  You'll have a terrific time anyway!

timb...

While reading your post it gave me an idea...weather permitting I'll be in Miami Sunday night, Monday I had plans on hitting some pawn shops and seeing if I could find any local music shops.  Rather than travelling with one of my guitars, I might see if I can pick one up while there!  At the end I'll either sell it back or take it back if I like it enough.

As Rocky mentioned, should a meet & greet of forum members happen I would love to join in.  Though I grossly lack organizational skills, I would gladly do what I can to help out.  I for one will be on board in time to see Ana!

Try guitar center's website for used guitars. You can search by distance to zip code, so you could search for everything close enough to your hotel.

It was so long ago now I'd kinda forgotten who was who but thanks for the kind words Rocket. I do remember you now Cathy, it would be a pleasure to catch up with you again.

How do you know 121 Brits are coming to the cruise? Is there a list somewhere with nationalities on it? wink We're flying across to MIA on the Monday, so arriving around 5pm. One night on South Beach (no idea what we're going to do but hey ho) and then a cab to the port for 12:00 on Tuesday.

I keep having this recurring dream of bumping into JB late at night on deck and then intently talking guitars/amps and stuff, as you do.... I start explaining we've "come all the way from England" and remortgaged the children to make it (close to the truth) - he then takes pity and invites me to join him, Robben Ford and Robert Cray for a jam in his room. My dear wife doesn't come into this of course. He hands me his '59 LP for a moment and as if overcome by some form of ghostly spirit, I just play like I have never played before and completely blow him away, he's in awe. He wants to jam more when he's in the UK so we can learn from one another. We swap numbers and are pals for life.

I then wake up and realise that this is utterly ridiculous of course. Robert Cray isn't on the cruise..... wink

Look forward to meeting some of you again (and Ron) in 12 days time.

lol  That's hilarious Rocky!  Yet, fantasy IS appropriate preparation for this cruise.  Hopefully all is "smooth sailing" (eh, Joe?! smile) and perhaps might become a biennial trip (that's every 2 years, not annually) that gets a little bigger and better every time?! big_smile

Loved the dream Rocky!  I think I was in the room with you.

Thanks timb.  Great advice.

On Thursday we will be hit with our fourth snowstorm in 10 days.  I am pooped.  I believe everyone in the north east is dealing with the same.  It's dreams like Rocky's that help me through till the day I leave...although Robben and Robert are replaced with Joanne and Ana in said dreams.
