Topic: Pickin' and a Grinnin'

The older I get and the more my musical boundaries expand I am starting to see the technical skill it takes to master that "Chickin' Pickin' "-style.  I often wonder, what if Joe was to combine that old school/high speed country twang with some southern rock and dirtied up blues.  I guess maybe I am thinking Pride & Glory meets Albert Lee.  Anyone ever had a similar thought?  Am I nuts?

Sounds like Greg Koch!  Lots of great videos of him on youtube, he's one of my favorite modern players.  There's at least one with him playing w/ JB.

John 5 mixes chickin pickin with metal, with interesting and cool results.  It's all a big stew...

Re: Pickin' and a Grinnin'

I'm pickin' up what you're layin' down about Koch.  Although, the stew I have in mind excludes the lightning fast pentatonic scales and angry harsh metal style Wylde has become so synonymous with.  I'm looking back to that southern bluesy-rock wah-groove thing he had back in the P&G days.  That plus the tele-twang, and Joe at the controls.....hang on for a 110mph ride in an M5 BMW down a muddy Tennessee dirt road with the stereo turned up to "11".

Are you talking about Zakk Wyle?

Yes.  Young Zakk goes in the stew.  Current Zakk not.

The M5 BMW threw me.  Cherry 70 'cuda or custom truck maybe.

If I recall correctly, Joe is an "M" enthusiast.

I hadn't read that about Joe so I didn't get the reference but when I saw your post my thought was that an M5 didn't bring to mind the blues or southern rock and in no way would that trip end well for the car or the silly yankee driving it.

Yeah....that's the coolness.  Taking a mix of things that maybe shouldn't be and tearing the hell out of it.
