Surely letting all this bitterness, argument and alientation fester for months when they could have nipped it in the bud early doesn't make any sense. Why would you treat your fans that way and risk them possibly talking negatively to others about Joe and what has happened? Unless they were worried that if they informed people of the regional gigs too early, it would affect sales of the Apollo tickets. In which case this could be be seen as nothing more than a cynical ploy to get people to pay top dollar to go to London instead of waiting for something (hopefully) more reasonably priced locally. And that would not reflect well on them either.
It is in fact hard to see a scenario in all this that reflects well on on Joe's team at all EXCEPT for the one where they listened to the fans and then did the decent thing in response, but you seem to think that this is unlikely...
Every artist releases dates in a way to not affect sales of earlier announced dates. Just anecdotal evidence but case in point. Fleetwood Mac released fall tour dates and Dallas 180 miles south of Oklahoma City was as close as they were coming to me. I bought tickets. The Spring tour was announced later and Oklahoma City was on the schedule. Do I get mad at anybody? Do I think they are playing me the fool? No I sell my Dallas tickets on Stub Hub and make $200 each and buy better seats in OKC. Yea me. It's the concert business not the concert charity. Of course the dates and routing were planned and are planned months in advance and of course the information is withheld. I'm sorry but the whining here is becoming fingernails on the chalkboard. Can we please quietly protest the grave injustices in the Bonamassa world.
Fair enough Jim, I can't speak for others, but I personally shall say no more on this particular subject. But for future reference, I think it would be fair to say that there are a couple of things that really irritate a lot of people over here (certainly from the feedback I've been getting): firstly having what they consider to be legitimate beefs described as 'whining' (this is unnecessary and insulting and is always likely to provoke a response) and secondly having privileged people who are fortunate enough to see Joe many times a year trying to tell fans less financially fortunate than themselves that they should just get on with it and spend money they don't necessarily have...
Of course the old rule applies here and it applies even to me. It is not what you say but how you say it that offends. I understand money issues and understand the concerns about ticket prices. It comes down to priorities and choices. Joe is my hobby. I don't hunt, fish or scuba dive. I have grown kids. There has been one non Joe vacation in the last 13 years for me. I certainly could do other things with my time and being here almost everyday is something I have chosen to do. The forum is here to voice your concerns and again as I moderate it isn't what you say but how you say it that gets my attention. Joe reads the forum and he has heard and listens to his fans. This is a direct line to him. I often pass feedback and complaints on to people in the organization that can rectify situations that have developed over the years and they really do have a customer satisfaction if first attitude.
Having been in the service business for 35 years I have come to know that you can't please everybody. You can only do your best. I know that Joe's organization does their best. Yes sometimes your best falls short of some peoples expectations. A complaint is lodged. I have responded unofficially to them here recently after sitting quietly while people voiced their displeasure with the current ticket prices. I think I did it in a diplomatic way. People always want to know the future routing of shows including me. I want to know when and where the Three Kings tour is playing. I would like to make plans for my summer vacation because I want to see it. However if I knew before others I would not be at liberty to announce here because it wouldn't be official. There are leaks from the venues and the co-sponsors (PBS) about a few dates which is good enough for me and we found out about them here. That is what this place is for.
There have been numerous topics and discussions about ticket pricing here and everyone that wanted to has had the opportunity to vent. Sorry I just couldn't take the same discussion being resurrected about releasing tour dates combined with the ticket price gripes in another thread. I'm not perfect I try to make points in a reserved and well thought out way. I shot from the hip once. Unfortunately I'm a pretty deadly shot.
