Topic: anyone notice joe played same song twice last night

ok so I am listening to the recording of last nights show and joe played Gave Up Everything For You twice once in middle of set and again for encore . I am wondering if he did this for the video . first time the song had a nice instrumental intro before he broke into the singing second one he just went right into the singing .I thought both versions where good .

Re: anyone notice joe played same song twice last night

Retake. Most people probably thought the song sounded familiar but not already played. Joe missed the intro verse and Kevin wanted them to redo it for the video capture. I thought Joe might say something but I thought it was really a good place for that song to go in the set. Maybe it will show up again this year as an encore song.

nmagcorn wroteThe first time it was played I believe Joe may have forgotten the first few words so he did a kind of extended intro which actually sounded really cool and of course all the guys are such top notch musicians they followed his lead. He also did a slightly longer instrumental ending. My guess is Kevin Shirley wasn't thrilled with it and wanted them to redo so that it was more spot on to how it was originally intended. It was funny because for the redo Tal and Carmine really weren't sure what all was going to be happening next and if that would be the actual end of the show. Tal said he kept his in-ears in just in case and sure enough Mike brought out another guitar for the final song "So what would I do". With the redo the show went on to 11 pm!:

I would agree listening to both versions it was a "retake" and not a "reprise"...however I would hope if a Blu-Ray is released it will contain the first version as a "Bonus" cause it had a really awesome and different solos at the end and beginning...

I still think it was a treat to have them do it twice...It was like in the 1950's when blues bands would do the reprise thing and it would be awesome if JB kept doing it that way as a surprise for audiences who are really on and deserve something extra special!!!

Joe played Story of a Quarryman twice at the Borderline in 2013 (Tour de Force). He didn't try to hide it though...pretty much said we *&^%ed up the first version, so pretend we're playing this for the first time.

I snuck it in because I wanted to nail it.

Well,  as I saw the photo of your Mom's smile after the surprise The double take was worth it.  #momsrule

You might have messed up, Joe, but to us it was a bonus all the way around. Loved how it sounded the first time around with the extended intro and then to have what felt like a real quick version at the encore was an added plus. And what a special thing to do you for your Mom. She was absolutely beaming with pride and joy smile

I love these kind of moments...I see it with some frequency at the theater I work part time at with the Broadway plays with multiple performances.  What I think is really cool about it (geeky, I know lol)  is how the "professionalism" goes on auto pilot, so as Joe said, hardly anyone notices.  It always impresses me.....the show must go on and it does!  wink

P.S.  And I'm sure you did "nail it" plus you gave your wonderful Mom , a wonderful moment!

You always say; you give us mistakes for free.

I've actually 'borrowed' your line when I finish playing my set, that they got the mistakes for free along with a few good notes.

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

If I did a gig they'd be paying for my mistakes and getting the good notes for free lol lol lol
