Radio City Music Hall/Night Two-January 24, 2015 (Page 1 of 2)

Just got back from the concert and all I can say is WOW...I mean seriously freaking WOW...JB and the band just tore up RCMH. To say the show was beyond freaking awesome is an understatement...amazing, killer, brilliant show!!!

The "I Gave Up Everything For You, 'Cept the Blues" reprise at the end was a real unexpected treat and just one of the many phenomenal moments of the night...

Double Trouble was just wickedly ridiculous...and to open with a blazing version of "Never Give All your Heart" was spot on spectacular and sounded amazing!!!

Joe was blazing flames all night and Reese was just amazing as were everyone else in the band...everyone seemed to be "ON" and really enjoying the night and the vibe from the crowd....

"The Ballad of John Henry" was super intense and I really loved the blazing solo JB played in "Love Aint  Love Song"

It was awesome to hear a song JB just wrote last week...great funky/Allman Bros groove "I don't care...I got "One less Cross to Bear" really, really great song and was awesome live...thanks for playing it for us!!

Other highlights for me  from the acoustic set were unreal version of "Happier Times" "Black Lung Heartache" "Slow Train" and "Athens to Athens"...and from the electric set "Sloe Gin" "Hidden Charms" "Living on the Moon" and "Oh Beautiful"

Thanks to JB and the band for an epic frickin awesome night...my wife and I had a blast!!!

And thanks from deep in the fiber of my very being for keeping the music alive and sharing your soul and your passion again with us tonight

I hope she posts more Videos of 1/24 as it was a killer show and cant wait for the PBS airing and I HOPE a DVD of the 1/24 show in its entirety will be released...PLEASE!!!!

So, we're back home and I'm now reflecting on the absolutely fantastic couple of nights we had in NY. First off, these shows are now in my top favorite of all time. I love the new material that was played, the addition of the horns, and of course the addition of Reese on keys. In my mind he really was the missing piece of the puzzle. The first night was so wonderful because there were so many songs that were played that I had been dying to hear live from the recent album. And I absolutely love the brand new song "One Less Cross To Bear" It has a fabulous funky beat to it and those lyrics! Love them! The second night Joe and the band just took it to a whole other level. The crowd was rowdier the second night and Joe and the band were definitely feeding off that energy and giving it 1000%. This show was spectacular and anybody who loves Joe's music and the Blues would be a fool not to want to see it because not only did Joe and the guys play a fantastic show, they freakin' nailed it!
Now secondly, after spending a little bit of time talking with the guys in the band these past few days, what has really struck me is the incredibly high level of admiration, respect and love all of them have for Joe. Mats told us that playing the Blues with Joe and spending so much time with Gerry has resulted in the two of them wanting to write and record a blues influenced compilation of Swedish and Irish music which would also include a singer. Something the two of them would never have even thought about had they not spent this time with Joe. It has opened up a whole new musical path for them and they are so thankful and excited about it. You can tell Tal also has a deep level of admiration for Joe. As he told us, just think, Joe is a musician who has no real hits, yet he sold out Radio City Music Hall. I mean, think about that for a minute, it would appear theoretically impossible, but it isn't because somehow Joe has done it. And it's not just because he is one of the best guitar players in the world, there are many fantastic guitar players out there, it's because he and Roy have done it their own way.They have worked outside the box. Roy has a vision for the future and is willing to take risks to make it happen. And Joe is always pushing himself, trying new things and loves a challenge. In fact you could say Joe is actually kind of fierce. If you were to challenge him and tell him, you can't do that, he would rise to the occasion and not only prove you wrong but succeed in a glorious fashion. And succeed he has! So I just want to say a huge congratulations to Joe for the incredible success of these shows in both the playing and the sold out crowds. One night at close to 90% and the second night sold out at probably the most iconic venue in the US and which seats over 6000 people. Joe you prove the blues is alive and well! Congratulations to you!
