Topic: JB Inspired Ballad

Happy Monday everyone -
Its cold and snowy up here in Maine which makes me miss summer, and I wanted to share this song with you all.

I'm sure many of you on this forum are not just fans but musicians as well, meaning the way that you enjoy Joe B's music is multifaceted. For me personally, he has been a profound influence on my songwriting.

One of the songs of his that I've seen very debated on here is When She Dances - I can understand that for people into the heavier bluesrock, might not be their thing. I personally have always been more of a softer music fan, which I'm not ashamed at all to say - harder rock and blues are fun and a blast to play, but I tend to hear more emotional content (I said EMOTIONAL content, NOT ANGER! tell me someone gets that reference...) in softer music. I challenge anyone to pack as much emotion, voice and meaning into a song like whats in Telegraph Road.

But I digress - this is a song I wrote many years ago about my wife, who shared her love of surfing with me. For a few years and playing it in multiple bands, it just didn't sound right and I was having a hard time steering it in the right direction. Then I bought a copy of Had to Cry Today, and heard When She Dances. I liked it so much as a song, it helped me rethink and reshape my own song drawing in a new influence. Of course the original influences on it were still there (early influences were Jack Johnson and the Beach Boys, believe it or not - might not be too often you hear those two + JB as the primary influences on a tune), and I didn't need to change it much, but just that hint of inspiration made all the difference.

This was on my second album. So thanks to Joe for the inspiration, and I hope you all enjoy it!

Re: JB Inspired Ballad

Thank you for posting ... as ZeyerGTR said ... has a good vibe to it.

I remember when I picked up HTCT ... When She Dances got heavy rotation because it stood out on the album ... and I mean in a very good way.

Thank you again.  Nice vocals as well. (I'm assuming it's you on the lead?)

"I was in Space for less than 2 weeks … and suddenly Jeaniene’s back … half the Band is off the gd wagon … we have comedians opening for us … and the nice kid that ran our website is now a kleptof’nmaniac.  Boy ... did you guys miss me!!"  Phil Valentine - Road Manager - Staton House Band

JBLP#251 (unaged) ... thank you Ron.

Re: JB Inspired Ballad

Thanks! Yup, Old Orchard. I've done my fair share of frollicking here. We're actually moving soon, our house is under contract. Its been fun but its a little too touristy - looking for a more family oriented town.

Hows the weather up there right now? (thats rhetorical, its -6 here at the moment so I can only assume its less than tropical where you are...)
