Re: Top 5 gigs in 2014

Nice list, Michael. I'm only slightly jealous. wink

I had a relatively quiet 2014 gigwise and here are my highlights in chronological order.

  • Joe Bonamassa, Aerosmith, Thunder & Richie Sambora at Calling Festival, Clapham in the company of Michael (at the front, of course)

  • Govt Mule x 2 at Brooklyn Bowl (with Mr Curryman, Ian916 and his son, Will on the first night and his wife on the second)

  • Aynsley Lister at NewCrawdaddy Blues Club, Billericay (15 years and a lot of gigs since I first saw Aynsley)

  • Virgil and the Accelerators at The Borderline, London (album launch with more Gig Buddies than I can remember) Virgil tore the place up smile

  • Beth Hart, Robert Cray, The Hoax, Q&A with Marcus Bonfanti and Jon Allen all on the same day as part of the RAH Bluesfest - what a fab day (with Curryman, Pete, Kenny, Maggie, Lydia and Roger)

The best gigs are undoubtedly those shared with the friends made on this Forum. smile

Re: Top 5 gigs in 2014

Blackberry Smoke-twice- once in New Hampshire and once in Maine. Absolute great live and like Joe always touring!!
Joe-New Hampshire-not as big of a fan of this venue as others but a little Joe makes everything better!!
Anthony Gomes-Rhode Island-Anthony is just pure fun and energy-probably have been to  5 or 6 shows!!
Robert Cray/John Hiatt-Maine-This was the best co-headliner show I had ever seen. Great respect for both!!
Keb Mo-Maine-Not my usual but he is one hell of an entertainer!!

Dont need a helmet to get me through life-walk across the water blame it on foolish pride.

Re: Top 5 gigs in 2014

Wow. Just 5? (I had a big year - again smile)
In a year where for the interest of the forumites here, I got to see Joe, Govt Mule and the Dave Matthews Band all of which were brilliant, my top 5 were:

The Rolling Stones - Hope Estate, Hunter Valley
Queen + Adam Lambert - Allphones Area, Sydney
The White Album Concert (4 different Australian singers and 34 piece band / orchestra) - Sydney Opera House
Jimmy Barnes,  playing two of his early albums (For The Working Class Man, Freight Train Heart) beginning to end - Enmore Theatre Sydney
The Delta Riggs (my favourite "new" band), playing their new album Dipz Zebazios in it's entirety on the day of it's release - Fitzroy Workers Club, Melbourne. (Well worth travelling for!)

Special mention to two of my heroes, Deniz Tek (founder / guitarist from cult legend Australian band Radio Birdman) and Don Walker (piano, brilliant songwriter from Jimmy Barnes original band, Cold Chisel) each doing intimate acoustic shows in 50-80 seat rooms.
