Topic: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

Just saw Joe in Fort Meyers, Germain Arena, 12-20-14. Outstanding show, Joe was on great form, 3000+ tickets sold.

Here's my beef. It seems that many people can't keep from talking non-stop during the show. Ongoing conversations during the music, shouting back and forth. Why would anyone pay $100+ to not listen to the music? I finally turned to the couple next to me and said, "Could you stop talking? It's very distracting!" Many around us kept up a running dialog like small children at a movie or like they were at a baseball game. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

Yes! when I saw Joe last April some guy shouted "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE" and Joe stood up and humorously said, " Its not my birthday man, haven't you kids ever heard of @#$%^^&# Wikipedia!!" Everyone loved that...

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

don't let any loud mouth ruin your Joe show, was there also Joe was awesome , this was my 5th Joe show and my 1st meet & greet 2nd row seats center stage such an awesome show cant wait for next year

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

We have been to 5 Joe shows and it never fails - some people are just rude.  I also can't figure out why someone would pay good money to sit close and then either make 5 beer runs during the show or talk the whole time.  Very very annoying.  Another thing that happened at one of the more recent shows was the sea of people who felt like they needed to basically charge the stage when Joe came out for the encore / mountain time.   I guess the security will be different from venue to venue but in Columbus, OH they let a swarm of people turn the aisles into standing seats.

You have not experienced what a truly emotion filled solo is until you have seen Joe play Sloe Gin in person.

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

There were knuckleheads at all three shows I attended - didn't ruin my experience but it could have been better without them.  I think Joe got irritated and cut some quieter stuff short, which is a damn shame.  In Columbia SC the guy in front of me spent the whole show either coming or going, it was unbelievable.

"Love you Joe!"

lol

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

Even at Red Rocks there were a few people near me distractingly loud. And with all the drinking and marijuana, I knew it would be a fool's errand to ask them to tone down the volume. (That's my one complaint of Red Rocks: they were active in enforcing the rule that forbade video recording, and stopped the guy next to me, but they turned a blind eye to all the smoking.)

I get that some of it is seen as tradition. And certainly if you listen to B.B.'s live shows, especially Live at the Regal and Live at the Cook County Jail, there is a lot of audience involvement. But the difference there is that it is driven by the artist. The audience is responding to the performer's invitation, whereas what people do now seems to be driven by a need to make themselves heard. In one show, Joe had to shush them so he could get through a quiet delicate solo.

Every show has still been amazing though...

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

I know this has been covered on this site before, but today I feel like piling on...

Almost every concert I have been to this has happened, either the countless trips to the can or for beer, or the drugs come out.  And when I saw Joe for my first time at the Beacon it really was a distraction.  Frustrating too considering the cost of flights and hotel for that experience.

But it is a concert thing and by no means a Joe thing.

The most recent concert for me was Bob Seger in Halifax.  About the third song into the set the guy next to me goes to light up!  Now I'm no poster boy, but I have never done drugs, I don't smoke and where I work there is random drug testing.  I can in no way shut down everyone in the arena who want's a toke, but when it's happening right next to me... well, I convinced him to put it away for later!   :-)

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

Oh it's been covered over and over, but what about the woman who belts out the vocals to every song like she is on stage? At least "Air Guitar Guy" is quiet and fun to watch!

"Is it the new blues mobile or what?"                                                                                                                                                                                                     "Fix the cigarette lighter."

The "Evil Eye" will usually shut them up. ;-)

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

NYE at the Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga show in Vegas yesterday. Twenty-something in the row behind us starts off with a bunch of OMG's as Lady Gaga's parents sit in the front row. Babbles on at full loud about how she's such a fan and has met Gaga. Everyone around us in the classy crowd is looking very annoyed. When the first song starts and she stands and yells I turn around, tell her to shut up and give her the look. She demurs about how she is "entitled". I point my finger at her and say, "Don't make me be an A$$hole" with an icy glare. She was shocked that someone would deny her crass behavior. She shut up for the rest of the show. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down.

Rick- How was the show? As some may remember, I am a fan of Lady Gaga and I especially like this collaboration.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Excellent! My wife wanted to see it and the venue, Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan, was superb as you'd expect a top class Vegas show to be.
Tony's the star and LG fills out the show with a few solos, some great duets and an array of flashy gowns. Great big band supporting them playing jazz standards. Tix are sold out for the tour and expect to get scalped. I did, but got a deal after I checked the market for the LA shows. Highlights are showing on PBS now and then.

Thanks for that Rick, and I can safely assume everyone else in the audience that night thanks you as well.

Isn't it a shame that it needs to come to that at times?

It sure is but I decided long ago that I won't tolerate it at all. It fries my eggs when disrespect for the audience and the artists is so pervasive these days with the me generation.  I don't mind being the designated ego-crusher and give fair warning to idiots nearby before the show starts that I'll be not-so-pleasant if they persist. Being fairly large and very hairy helps. wink

Re: Annoying Chatty Knuckleheads

One of the music venues close to my hometown in the UK is pretty clear on this subject. From their website:

"PLEASE NOTE: All visitors to the Club are requested to refrain from talking during performances. Please reserve your conversations for the intervals. Members of the audience are encouraged by the Club to tell people to shut up! Persistent chatterers may be asked to leave. However, dancing is most definitely approved of!"

Even fools say something worthwhile now and again
