Re: Robbin Ford

Whatever you do, don't take a camera !!!!!

Robben is absolutely paranoid about audience photographs and virtually every time I have seen him, there has been an announcement before the show saying not to take them and I have seen him stop mid show and point someone out to security.

PS

By the way, its not Robbin or Robin, but Robben

Re: Robbin Ford

Robben is touring in support of a new album this Spring. He doesn't tour much except for the West coast so any chance to see him in the Midwest and on the East Coast is a rare treat. I have him in OKC in April so I assume there will be more dates announced soon. He really hates flash to the point of him being phobic for some reason. Will also be seeing him on the cruise and will be an added treat if he and Joe jam together.

Re: Robbin Ford

Wow, I guess I was really lucky then because I filmed him from the front row when we saw him at the Musician's Institute show last January. Maybe since there is no flash he didn't notice but he also ended up sharing the video on his facebook page. We would really love to see him again. Phil was checking out some of his tour dates just today. Looks like the only thing on the east coast might be New Hampshire and that is really far unfortunately.

Thanks for the spelling correction I knew the spelling I had Robin Trower on my mind.
So he is paranoid about flash? Will he meet with fans after the show and sign stuff and take pics? I hope so if not maybe I will not go. His fans should be number one
Cheers Ron

Re: Robbin Ford

Robben is old school only recently embracing the concept of social marketing. Allowing video is a dramatic change for him.  Being fan friendly is evolving for him too. I had him in 2011 and he hung out after the show and posed for pictures. In 2007 a fan snapped a flash pic and he went to the green room after that. He is eccentric at times and very fan friendly at times. I have gotten to know Robben over the years I have been a fan and promoter.  I however don't go to shows to meet the artist I go to see them perform. I have met some artists I wish I hadn't, He isn't one. He is to me one of the most influential guitarists of the blues genre and you owe it to yourself to go enjoy his playing and if you get to meet him that could be a bonus or a dissapointment.  I still would recommend seeing him.

Re: Robbin Ford

Jim is absolutely right. Your best bet is to err on the side of caution and skip the taping & pics and just enjoy the killer music he oozes and hopefully nobody will screw up, I've seen him unleash his wrath several times and it throws him off his game for the rest of the show.

Re: Robbin Ford

What Jim said. Robben Ford is one of the modern Blues artistic influences on Joe and many others. A master who deserves a listen. Enjoy the show. If you want video, there is a download of RockPalast with his trio out there to be found, or go buy it. Having young Travis Carlton on bass is just icing on the cake at that show.

Re: Robbin Ford

Have seen Robben over a dozen times, as he used to tour and play in Maine a lot years ago.....have not seen for several years....every show I have attended he did a meet and greet afterwards, signing items and taking pictures.    Hoping ron this is still case, starting to plan out a build.  (4) signed bonamassa pieces, (1) signed eric Johnson piece, (1) signed gary hoey piece......goal is to get a robben ford, carl Verheyen, Michael landau and Brad paiseley piece......should complete my collection, lol

Looking forward to show and guitar hang......

Re: Robbin Ford

Saw them week before last and the band is awesome. Mark steals the show with great singing and harp and energy galore, and Volker Strifler is amazing in his own right.  No meet and greet, and pictures and video still a no no. A guy next to me was taping, and Robben bent down and said "do you mind getting that camera out of my face"?

Nice to see my friend Volker get some love here. I met him playing with Robben at The Big Room at The Sierra Nevada Brewery 10 years ago and found out he played with his own band around the Bay Area. Hooked him up with a few gigs over the years and thoroughly enjoy his playing. Gotta love a player that goes toe to toe with Robben.

Re: Robbin Ford

Haha! yes I saw Robben last year in Hamburg and there was an announcement before the concert about photos and filming and Robben took the stage and reiterated it personally.
When someone failed to heed he stopped the second number and reminded the crowd again! I thought after that he was pretty annoyed and spooked, but audience reaction got his better side out and I think by the end he was pretty pleased.

As I write this I am looking at my framed signed copy of his tour poster and set list from the night. He couldn't have been nicer after the show and stood at the desk for a considerable time signing and chatting.

As someone else has said, he is 'old school' and probably thinks it should be about the music. If the guy asks for it not be to be done, the audience should respect that.

I was at a gig on Sunday evening and a guy near me remonstrated with a couple in front of him to stop moving to the music as he was filming! I mean c'mon.....we are there to enjoy the concert and not play hostage to someone else's hobbies.

I appreciate a good YT video as much as the next person, but there is a time and a place......................
