The Experience Hendrix Tour, launching October 16 at Washington’s Constitution Hall, has gained significant momentum even before its kick-off date. Just added to the previously announced star-flecked whirlwind five city sold-out run are two additional dates: Providence, RI plus a return New York engagement at the tour’s conclusion. Total: seven performances over the course of seven successive nights are sponsored by Gibson Guitar

The tour features some of the most respected and innovative figures in rock and blues and celebrates the genius and artistry of Jimi Hendrix. Experience Hendrix, LLC, the Hendrix family company entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix is the series producer. Gibson Guitar, a partner on various projects with the Hendrix family in the past, is sponsoring the innovative tour experience..

Artists performing music written by and associated with Jimi Hendrix include blues giant Buddy Guy, pedal steel virtuoso Robert Randolph and contemporary guitar great Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Special guests include Robby Krieger, guitarist of the Doors, Rolling Stones veteran guitarist Mick Taylor and Hubert Sumlin, the Mississippi-born guitarist who worked with both Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. Most remarkably, Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), the same Jimi Hendrix Experience rhythm section that played Woodstock will be on hand for the Experience Hendrix tour dates. Another notable duo, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon, a/k/a Double Trouble and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan’s highly regarded rhythm section are part of the tour’s musical cast. Newly added performers include Texas guitar slinger Doyle Bramhall, Corey Glover from Living Colour, and Kenny Olson (Kid Rock) to the tour’s talent roster.

Also appearing are Indigenous, the blues skewed Native American band and Memphis guitar icon Eric Gales. Various combinations of these artists are expected to perform such Hendrix signature songs as “Purple Haze,” “Hey Joe,” “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” “Red House” and and many, many, more coupled with Hendrix-inspired guitar riffs and rhythm patterns, highlighting the brilliance of the most highly guitarists of all time.

So the East Coast will get to Experience this!

I hope it is just as cool as the West Coast Tour (3) years ago. The show in Portland at the Roseland Theater was intoxicating.
A great moment that night was standing in line for will call, and a guy dressed in serious Jimi wear, from the top of his velvet hat with a wild feather standing proudly to the bottom of his boots, brushed past us. The gal at the ticket booth asked his name, and he grinned broadly and said there must be tickets for me somewhere! It worked, she let him in.

It was just the start of a magical evening standing shoulder to shoulder next to the stage with great fans rockin in support of the Hendrix Family.

We've got great seats for the opening night at a smallish venue (DAR Constitution Hall) and I can't wait....Jimi is probably the biggest reason I picked up an electric guitar 30 years ago and enjoy playing to this day, and a large part of why Joe is one of my favorite musicians (seeing him play Spanish Castle Magic & Are You Experienced was mind-blowing).

Me and ChrisM will be posting some reviews on Wed if we're not completely drained from the "experience" (no pun intended).

I don't think that I will be able to sleep after this show, Carl.  I assume by texas guitar slinger, Doyle Bramhall, they mean Doyle the 2nd...which is AMAZING!   My god, I can't wait.

sounds like a great line up...buddy guy, hubert sumlin, double trouble, hendrix band members, corey glover, robert randolph, doyle.... leave the two Kenny's at home, there are far more worthy guitarists.

Someone called me before the tickets went on sale and when I looked at the calendar, I knew I was tied up with some parental responsilibties (2 of my kids have PSAT's Sat. AM...I'll be helping with those practice tests Friday night etc.) Still hoping I end up there somehow...

Heads up for the AC show-I got an e-mail from Ticketmaster last week, it's not sold out and they have tickets at 20% off.  When you get to the section of the screen where you enter the amount of tickets you want, there is a spot to enter a discount code on the right...the code is GUITAR.  The seats are decent and not too expensive. I can forward you the e-mail if you want.

I know I'm always tossing out ideas, BUT our hard working main man here has off on Monday October 22nd, not far from the NJ show on Sunday October 21st.  Now, I have no idea if he'd be interested in being invited & probably needs that day off, but I would think with Joe's good standings with Gibson Guitar and them being the sponsor and Joe's relationship with some of the other artists....it could be a blast to be involved in this!!

I just took in the mail and I open up the December issue of GuitarPlayer and on page 42 is a very fine article on Joe and on the opposite side is a list of the Top 40 Underrated Guitarists and Robby Kreiger is on the list!!!  I was really glad to see his name there along with several others including Rory Gallagher.

Anyway, I got Robby Kreiger on the radar.  I ran into a guy last week with a Riders On The Storm T-shirt on and we were at the same show in May...hands down the ultimate highlight of recent concerts for me...we talked for a long time...he was only in his 20's...I love young people with good taste in music!!!

So, if Joe reads this or anyone on Joe's team thinks this is a good idea work your manager mojo.  I would find it hard to believe Gibson wouldn't add Joe to the lineup to play the closing show of the Hendrix Experience, even if he just got invited by Robby or Buddy to come on the stage for a number or 2!   Maybe I fantasize too much...:rolleyes:  I just heard through the Patrick Droney grapevine that his manager got him added to the Atlantic City show.  He has developed a friendly relationship with Tommy Shannon and has given Tommy some of Joe's CD's.

I saw one some website that said that John Mayer will be there too...but it didn't look too reliable.  I'd love for him to be there too, but no matter what, I'm guessing I'll get my fill of decent enough guitar playing. smile

It's been all I could do to keep myself from starting a great adventure with this show tonight! You all better let me know how it goes. I know Bob (tarus52) will be there...then..(If I was rich)..I'd head to N.C., up to Richmond, then Rockville..oh well, I know people here will fill me in...  Chris..I know it will be all that you dream!!!!!    Edit: it's 2:pm and it just hit me that Joe could show up tonight!!!!  If he flew into D.C......ENVY....Cathy

Some quick notes:  Full review tomorrow

Fantastic show.  Some technical problems, which I am sure will be worked out as this is the first show. 

Amazing line-up.  No Jonny Lang who apparently had a family emergency, and no Doyle.  Without a doubt, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Buddy Guy stole the show from everyone else.

Highlights:  Kenny & Robert Randolph doing Voodoo Chile with Double Trouble.  Mato Manji (Indigenous) doing Little Wing with Double Trouble.

Lowlights:  Mitch Mitchell...more on this tomorrow.

I couldn't find any reviews for the Atlantic City show on Friday night, I didn't go, but heard it was a great show from someone there.

And that young 15 year blues guitarist, Patrick Droney, got to play with Robbie Krieger and Billy Cox.  It had to be an absolute thrill and an honor to play with these 2 great musicians!!  I heard Kenny Wayne Shepherd was totally awesome.  Patrick may be showing up at the finale tonight in New York!

I was lucky enough to catch the show in Providence (being and living in Boston makes it funny to hear "what's up Rhode Island," but that's not the point).  Most of the setlistwas the same for the Non-Buddy part, except they added Robby Krieger to Red House, and he absolutely blew away the others.

Buddy came on with Damn Right I've Got the Blues.  He then invited Hubert Sumlin out, and they started off with Five Long Years.  After that, he invited out Mick Taylor and Robert Randolph ("to f*** things up," as he said).  Eventually Kenny Wayne Shepherd also came out, and at one point was given Buddy's guitar to play.  Also, out came Quinn Sullivan.  He is... 9 years old.  And he was awesome!  He's from the area, from what I gather, and is very good.  He did question/answer parts with Buddy, and was able to keep up for the most part.  This whole time they weren't in any other definitive song, although they did sing the lyrics to "She's 19 Years Old" at one point, so if anything I'd call the second song a 30 minute medley/jam

Highlights:
Buddy Guy!
Kenny Wayne Shepherd was also very good
Seeing Robby Krieger, who I love
Noah Hunt was an awesome vocalist

Lowlights:
I wasn't a fan of Corey Glover's lyrics.  I'm sorry, but Spanish Castle Magic does not need screams.
They didn't play Hey Joe

It was definitely worth going 50 miles each way to see, though.
