Topic: Hammersmith 2015

Earlier this year I posted the message below, when the Hammersmith ticket prices were announced. It started an interesting thread, where the majority of fans felt they had been priced out :

"I think you have to look at ticket prices in the context of who the artist is and what other artists are charging. In the last three years I have seen Iron Maiden, Roger Waters and Rush in indoor venues, all of whom are bigger than Joe and all of whom have a substantially larger stage production. The tickets for all these shows were less than £80 face value. Even the Royal Albert Hall show that I attended last year on the 4th night of the Tour de Force run was only about £75.

Sorry Joe / Roy – you are taking the p*** with these prices. Yes, Joe B is getting bigger year by year but these prices are in the Rolling Stones / Bon Jovi / Rihanna / Jay Z league and Joe is not there yet. Unfortunately, he may have set a precedent. If the £106 seats do sell out, they will charge even more next time.

I have always made a rule for myself – never to pay more than £100 for a ticket, no matter who the artist is, and up to now, I have never had to do this. I decided not to make an exception for Joe, and I have bought a standing ticket in the stalls.
Has Joe overstretched himself ? We will see how the “market” reacts."

Out of interest, today I decided to look at tickets for the shows through the ticketmaster site. All four dates are sold out !

In a way, I am pleased for Joe that his profile has reached a point where he is able to sell out four nights  at this venue, even at those prices. However, this has now set a precedent (as I feared). How much will tickets be on his next tour after March 2015 ?

Re: Hammersmith 2015

I agree that you've got to set yourself a limit otherwise you just feel shafted. I was a bit worried about how much Joe would charge for shows in Munich in February 2015, but at 89 EUR for 5th row tickets it's acceptable. So really hope Hammersmith and the Carre in Amsterdam are one offs and we will not be totally priced out in future.

Re: Hammersmith 2015

I commend you for following up on this thread and reporting your findings.  As I remember the thread, there were a number of people that would rather spend that amount of money and see 2 or 3 different artist than blow their whole budget on one Joe show.  It was not that they could not afford the show, for the most part, but choose to spend their money differently, as is their prerogative.  Obviously, there were enough people that were willing to spend the money to see Joe.  I would love to see Joe multiple times per year, however, I would like to retire some day and it's just not in the budget, but, that is our decision.  We will be happy seeing Joe in two weeks in Ft. Meyers.  Can't wait.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Hammersmith 2015

I too thank Peter for the follow-on. A number of folks that post here felt priced out. A far greater number that don't post purchased tickets at the price. Proof that the price was fairly marketed to a majority of fans. Prices over here have held to the level of a year ago more or less so far. The pair I just got via PBS were about $120 face value in an ultra prime venue that has an intimate atmosphere and reduced seating capacity. These were not in the first 4 or 5 rows since the venue reserves those for special high-roller packages with a room and dinner. San Diego is an affluent city. That venue always sells out at whatever price they choose to charge.

Re: Hammersmith 2015

Checked Ticketmaster this morning, there are still mid-price circle seats available for Tue and Thu.
If you request to choose your seat, the site states no seats available but if you allow the site to pick 'best available'
then you will currently get Row M in the circle.
I assume that the Fri and Sat have all been taken.
Strange because it does give the impression that there are no seats left!

Re: Hammersmith 2015

Ticketmaster is not the only ticket seller and there are still plenty of seats available from Eventim with only the downstairs standing tickets at the back of the stalls sold out for the first two nights. There are fewer tickets available for the Friday and Saturday night shows, which isn't surprising.

The Apollo shows are not yet sold out and there have been regular ads in the London evening newspaper for these shows over recent weeks. It is unusual for there still to be tickets for Joe's London shows, hence the ads. I expect the shows will sell out eventually, but it may mean the audience is made up of mostly part time music fans and not the hard core that have been at previous London shows.

If anyone has a spare standing stalls ticket for the first night on the 17th March, please let me know. wink

Re: Hammersmith 2015

I had been wondering and almost started a new post.

out of a theatre that seats about 4,000 +/- how many are real hard core Joe fans and how many are first timers (this goes for any of his shows).

I was guessing that maybe about 1,500 are hard core, in pretty much any venue

wonder if J&R have any way of telling that kind of stat's

I don't think it matters really.  It's those 'fans' who decide to get up mid gig to go drink copious amounts of alcohol that i have an issue with!

Yeah, i would concur on that as well - although, IMO, i think that happens more in the US than here in the UK

Living in the North, it does put an extra whole load of wedge on the cost of attending London gigs. I'm fortunate to be going Fri & Sat and can stay at my uncle's, so just the 4 trains to catch getting down there.

Are you suggesting it might have been more cost effective to charge less for the tickets in the first place, Ian? hmm
