Topic: Red Rocks Souvenir
While picnicking with the wife at the beautiful site high above the venue, I took a walk out in the bushes looking for a rock. The wife always brings back a rock from places we go for the garden. Lo and behold, I spotted this beauty and had the inspiration to make it a special memento of the gig and our good times in the Rockies. The shape, color and angle of the rock is just like the ones that form the amphitheater. I lugged it home in my shoulder bag since it would have put our baggage overweight. I then got some cherry wood, laminated a couple of planks together and shaped it, then took it to Santa Barbara where Joe was playing a benefit we attended and had him sign it while telling him the story of it and how much we enjoyed the show. Once back home, I varnished it to preserve the signature, had the little metal plaque engraved ( the date is the day we got the rock, the show was the next day) , drilled out a hole in the base of the stone and epoxied in a nut to mount it and hold it in place. Here it is. It sits proudly in the Joe shrine area and gives us a big smile at the memories of the good times with great fans we had.
