Topic: Joe with a twelve string acoustic.

I noticed in this recent video from Joe's show in Denver that he's playing "Ball Peen Hammer" on a 12 string acoustic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEC7WgMNJWs
I love the sound of a twelve string and one in Joe's hands has got to sound out of this world!
Three questions:
Has anyone seen Joe perform with one before?
Has he played it at other shows since? (CO, CA, WA, OR)
Anyone know the make and/or model? It's hard to see on the video.

And Joe, if you read this, feel free to chime in.

Re: Joe with a twelve string acoustic.

Thanks for the clip Lee. It looks as though the headstock is shaped to give a straight string pull across the top-nut for every string. Never seen one before. Joe?

Re: Joe with a twelve string acoustic.

If I had to guess I think its a Takamine- that seems to be what Joe's playing today (check out the beautiful one he plays in High Water Everywhere on the friday videos!  I'm going to have to save up for that one!)

I think it probably is a Takamine as well. I browsed their website and most of their 12 strings have a headstock shaped like that.

Its a Breedlove..  I found it in Denver.. I always had this vision for Ball Peen Live.  The 12 string is perfect for the song.  It fills alot of space and does that banjo thing very well.  It also stays in tune.. very important with a 12 string.

Thanks Joe! Can't wait to hear it in person!

Thanks for the info Joe!  I've played a Breedlove before- great guitars!  Even the less expensive models sound pretty good!

Lee,

Don't show me pictures of great looking guitars. You know how I am. And I'm in deep enough with Dawn over the guitars I've purchased already!............Now let's see......How much does that Breedlove cost?.............Maybe I could tell her Joe gave it to me.........Yeah, Yeah, that's it!!

Roy

P.S. Great guitar there Joe!!

I used to work as an Administrative Assistant and one of the Engineers I worked for had to travel for work sometimes.  After his travel, he would submit an expense report to be reimbursed for the gasoline/mileage.  He never told his wife and would save the money until he could afford a new guitar.  It cracked me up!

I understand though.  I look at our budget sometimes and think, "hmmm, if we cut just cut out groceries for the next twelve weeks, I could have that guitar . . . we could go without groceries, right hun?".  But, I have a family so it doesn't work that way. wink

Re: Joe with a twelve string acoustic.

Thanks Joe. Maybe it's the straight string pull across the nut that helps keep it in tune?

hey geko,

That was my first thought, too - I was like "What the hell - is he really throwing THAT guitar in the audience???"  ... but he didn´t. He told us after the gig that he had just bought it the same day for 300 Euro - and that he just bought it to throw it in the audience ... He said that the Paradiso is such a special place that he just felt like throwing a guitar in the crowd ... nice idea wink .
He signed it afterwards with "good catch"  - the guy who caught it was so happy (quite understandable ....).

Geko and Eva,

Wow, that must have been exciting!! When I see Joe in November maybe I should bring my baseball glove just in case!! lol

Roy

Good idea, Roy! wink

It was such a shocking moment: Joe swinging the guitar over his head and throwing it directly to the crowd ... when I talked to him later and made the point that he might have hit someone on the head with that heavy guitar he just said something like "Oh" and started laughing - hope he has a good insurance if he wants to keep on throwing guitars around at his shows wink !
