Topic: Live at Rockpalast

Does anyone wish this would be available as an audio version? I love this show and Joe's playing in it...

Also, does anyone wish that Joe would go back to this kind of playing/ style? It seems like the new releases are so much more tamed down... I just miss the old stuff!

Re: Live at Rockpalast

Yeah I want Rockpalast on CD..
I was going to 'rip' it to mp3.. some day...

JR.. please put it on an official CD.. please....

I love all of Joe's playing,, old, intermediate (RAH) and new.. one's not better than the other in my eye's.
some of his phrasing of the old stuff is great.. but you can't beat the 'new' old gear tone of now.

Let's just say I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bath water.

---------------

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

As Doug alluded to, you could "rip" the audio to pc and make your own cd if you have able software.  I've done that numerous times.  It's a little time consuming, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it.

I also favor Joe's stuff of that era as well.  It's just personal preference.  Kinda like preferring a 1967 Corvette over a new one (or insert your favorite muscle/sports car reference here).  I love the more raw energetic edge to his earlier stuff.  But I have to understand that someone with as much talent as Joe wouldn't be satisfied recreating sounds and styles.  So changing style is probably how he enjoys it.

Re: Live at Rockpalast

Well, Joe's metamorphosis has been the subject of many topics on this forum, and I understand where you're comin' from...That video is like an overdrive blast in the face by an incredible trio on fire including the fantastic  Eric Czar on bass and Kenny Kramme on drums...it may be may favorite single thing Joe has ever done...Having said that...I believe that at some point in Joe's career, he and Roy probably decided that Joe had more to offer than say a Stevie Ray Vaughn and by increasing his band size , he could cover a lot more ground musically...smart move in my mind...It led to the ridiculously good "Live at Albert Hall", so I would have to sum it up by saying that there's no going back.....but looking forward isn't so bad...Have you seen his band lately? It's like the best thing since Zepplin !!

+1 Miss the old stuff too … smoking band

Re: Live at Rockpalast

Although the video is a little difficult to watch because of all the zooming around at times, this show was a feast for the ears.  I ripped it to a CD many years ago and still listen to it.  Nothing wrong with reminding the new folks that there was a past band that was quite different than the present one, but the new could not have existed without the old.  Recently someone posted that the Bloodline CD is now on Amazon and iTunes so maybe there is hope that this will show up sometime soon.

Re: Live at Rockpalast

Definitely my favorite DVD.  I too have the tracks all ripped to MP3.  The River and Burning Hell are awesome versions of those songs.

Re: Live at Rockpalast

It's one of my favorite dvds as well! It's so raw and awesome to watch. I think Joe is the only artist where I like everything he does. I think it just depends on my mood when deciding what i'm going to listen to with him. He's so refined now and the band is so tight! It's always nice to go back to the previous albums or dvds and get that raw, unperfected sound!

Re: Live at Rockpalast

I was there at the Rockpalast show, I was at the RAH show , I organized a Blues In The Schools with Joe at my school ,I was at the Joe /Beth Hart show , I was in Munster last week and inbetween at about 60 shows. I follow Joe since 2003 and in 2004 saw his first show in Holland.

All shows were great, he is an outstanding musician and I saw him develope through the years. I like all his styles. they are different but all so extraordinary. When Joe would have played the music from the Rockpalast time he would never ever have been were he is now. Brilliant music but for too less people. I admire inJ oe so much that he plays all kinds of music and all  he does is so good. In 2005 I predicted he would be seen as one of the best  guitarplayers in the world because he has all concerning guitars.

Look were he is now.

Again : you can like a certain style better but all he plays is the best and he will do more different thing s in the future, I'm sure. Jazz maybe?

Re: Live at Rockpalast

I love all the stuff, especially live and consider Rockpalast the best live tone of almost all. An officia copy would be greatly received. big_smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Live at Rockpalast

I was there, too :-) Joe was great, but a lot of the raw energy came from Kenny and Eric, too.

edragoo: "unperfected sound"? surely you jest, any which way you meant it, whether you meant it was unperfect then or today's is more perfect. That doesn't add up to me. I cut some slack though as it was a very good post overall but i can't let that part go.

Jane, what I meant by that was it was more down and dirty back then with the 3 piece band. More of a jam band type of sound (which I absolutely love!) Was not meaning to say it was not perfect in that it didn't sound good, but in the Rockpalast dvd you can feel the sweat and hard work that Joe had put in all those years. The Rockpalast dvd is one of my favorite ones to watch! You can feel the energy the guys are putting out just watching it!

I think Joe's voice today sounds better than I have ever heard. The band is so tight and every person is a master at their instrument, that it feels less raw than it did in the early years. Either way I love just about everything Joe puts out! Pure music to my ears smile

Re: Live at Rockpalast

The rockpalast show is amazing. It was one of the first videos I saw online, and then bought, of Joe. It blew me away. It was a power trio, but not the average 'watch the guitarist/singer take all the credit' type deal. I mean, The rythem section was dead on yet super spontaneaous. There was a lot of free flowing, prestige-level, musicality flying around between those three. The drummers' fills... the in-and-out weaving basslines with their own melodies playing games of question-and answer with Joe.... theres so much layers within those 3 instruments it's insane.

There was SO much going on.         Ah...... Time to put it on again,

Re: Live at Rockpalast

In my perfect world I would have the Joe of today and have Joe in a rock band side project or in a power trio side project.I still would love to hear some new blues music with extended jams.I realize that's not where he is at right now other than maybe the RCFP music which I love.
The new cd is something else with all the horn and keys and percussion.Great songwriting as well.So I don't want to go back in JB time necessarily, but I do miss that aspect that originally drew me in when I discovered Joe.
The guy has so much going on all the time I guess it's hang in and enjoy the ride. You never know what he may do in the future.
I would think like a lot of musicians with a long back catalog and changes along the way will have fans that have a certain era they hold on to more than others. The Rockpalast era has to be one of those for many and for good reason.

Your rock candy baby
Your hard sweet and sticky

Re: Live at Rockpalast

Again, I think all this has been carefully orchestrated by Joe and Roy....Getting bigger and playing to a larger crowd was always part of the plan...Bringing blues back into the mainstream and large crowds is admirable and, as a huge blues fan, I appreciate it...Artists change in a 14 year period, and I think as Joe develops his voice, he relies less on guitar solo work, but through it all, he has been so consistant and always amazing live. I expect to hear several "unexpected" things in the coming years...One of my favorite things about Joe, is that he always finds amazing covers to do as well as his original stuff..you never know what to expect...I trust Joe not to "mail it in".....His work ethic is incredible...I don't know how he does it...Well...I do...He obviously insanely loves what he does...My only piece of advice is maybe to just forget about any tags or labels and just blow us away with something different...Just keep changin' it up a bit...
