Topic: Mesa Maverick thoughts?

My main amp is a Marshall JCM 2000 100 watt head and I'm looking for a combo to be an alternative for lower volume and smaller gigs. I love classic marshall sounds, as well as the old Dumbles. I've heard some people saying that the Mesa Maverick is very similar to a Dumble, and I was wondering what ya'll think about these amps. I'll be usually playing through it with an R9 if that helps at all. I found one for 700, is that a decent deal? Also, what's the wattage on the combos? Thanks.

Re: Mesa Maverick thoughts?

I have never had much luck with Mesa amps. I have had good success with old Fender combo amps and good overdrive pedals. I have an old Fender Blackface Bandmaster head that I put in a 2x10 combo. It sounds great and loves pedals. I have about $700 in it. There are a lot of companies that build various combo cabs for old Fender heads. I have an old Bassman head that I may put in a combo cab. That being said, the best deal going is an early 70's Fender Super Reverb. They are a bit tough to hall around but they are worth it for their glorious ambient tone. Stick a Bogner red or blue pedal in front of it and get ready. These are the best value out there for a hand wired amp. Just my two cents worth.
