Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

You can expect a few posts from me in the coming weeks smile

New album "Hypnotic Eye" will be released in the summer followed by a 30 date tour of America & Canada in August & September. There will be a lot of East Coast shows. Another trip across the pond methinks.

Because of the delay in releasing the album, the planned European tour has been postponed until probably next year.

Another trip Stateside looking likely :

Got tickets today for August 30 in historic Fenway Park in Boston.  Kenny - if you end up in the neighborhood get in touch.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Hi Sandy. That was our original plan and there was word that there might be a 2nd show if the first one sold out quickly. If 2 shows were definite we would have definitely went to them cos it's a long way just for one gig.

We couldn't take the chance so we have booked for West Palm Beach, Tampa & Nashville. Should be a fun trip smile

I don't think the second show is announced yet but I have it on good authority that it will be.  What you are doing sounds like a fun time, though.  Been a long time since I've seen these guys and looking forward to it.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Well Sandy the 2nd Fenway show didn't happen so they are playing Portland instead. Pity that wasn't the original plan as that would have been our trip.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Actually wished they had announced the Portland show earlier (I know they didn't because they didn't want to disrupt the Boston sales) because that actually would have been a better night for me.  Fenway did not sell out (I think there are still tix available) and I think some of the cachet of an artist playing there is wearing off on the masses.  We recently saw Zac Brown Band there and had a great time, but unless you are in the first section by the stage it is just another Arena show, can't see a thing and the sound can be iffy (definitely wasn't loud enough). We saw the Dropkick Murphys there a couple of years ago and they played a configuration for the stage setup that was much more intimate (even though there were probably 8,000 people there) and that was great).  We'll meet up again one of these days.

I home now Erin but had a great road trip. Have been to the USA many times but first time to Florida & Nashville. Won't be my last though. Tampa was my fave Tom show - the sound was perfect and the crowd more ecstatic, I think a lot from his home town of Gainsville were there. There were 4 females dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters and they played Don't come around here no more as the first encore for them. Really nice touch. I will not miss hollering in my ear though nor females shouting OMG constantly smile.

Nashville is just wall to wall music venues all day and into the early hours. And cowboy boot stores. Had a fantastic time.

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I agree about Hypnotic Eye!  I only got it about a month ago and I could not stop listening to it.  Finally took it out of my car and let my hubby give it a listen.  Its excellent!

There's another post about the tour with Steve Winwood and I had commented there about the ability of Tom Petty's music to appeal to different generations of fans, thats always a win-win.
