Topic: Ball Peen Hammer or Dirt In My Pocket?

I'm doing the talent show here at ATU, and I want to do two of these songs. I might do one for the audition, and one for the actual show. I'm leaning towards Ball Peen Hammer, but I really wanna do Dirt In My Pocket, and instead of the Middle Easter-style breakdown just go into a verse of If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day. Any thoughts?

The only problem is that Dirt In My Pocket is just a bit out of my range in a few spots. But I'm working on it, and I'm getting there. Ball Peen is really easy to sing for me, but I don't know.

Is there a way you could record yourself doing both songs. It may help you decide. But a word to the wise, try to make it the one you really want to play..no regrets...Like you say "Only the paranoid survive"     Cathy

id say dirt in my pocket.  play it on an acoustic, through an amp, with distortion on for the heavy parts, clean for the acoustic parts

personallyl, I'd do Ball Peen Hammer on a 12 string like Joe- I was playing around with that in a guitar store the other day- sounded so much better than my reg. 6 string acoustic...

Ball Peen Hammer.....Joe likes this one much better, so that's a good enough reason. Look for it to appear on a Chris Whitley tribute CD in the future.

Yup. Ball Peen Hammer. IMHO it's the better of the two for a live solo performer.

Email me on those details. I'd be very interested. But then again, I'm vain.

I'm not sure though. I have a week or so before the audition, so I can wait a little bit and see what's going to happen. I may not decide at all until I get up there.

Sorry, no Blues Deluxe. And honestly, both of those songs are way better than Blues Deluxe anyway. May be more impressive, but not better.

What do you mean by "real" joe songs?  Is is that he wrote them?  Cause he definetly didn't write Sloe Gin, ANDY, or Had to Cry Today... let the man do what he wants- he asked for an opinion on 2 songs and he's gonna play one of those 2 songs...
