Topic: Pandora Joe Juxtaposition

Just wanted to share this odd mix with all of you -

Had my Mark Knopfler Pandora station playing this morning - being based on solo Knopfler rather than Dire Straits, it had mostly lighter roots rock, even some bluegrass, for similar artists. Then all of a sudden JB comes on with a particularly searing version of Sloe Gin live.

...and to top it all off, in the background was a picture of Tom Brady playing golf in an Uggs for Men ad.

My senses are overloaded... I think I need a nap.

Re: Pandora Joe Juxtaposition

Pandora (at least in a browser) has a "wth are you playing this?" button where it will tell you the attributes that contributed to its inclusion. "Kick-ass guitar" would be a cool response there.

As an aside...In an episode of his podcast, Joe talks about listening to Dire Straits with his father.  A vanishingly small number of kids that pick up guitar go as far as Joe has. So even if my son doesn't go any further than having a lifelong hobby with guitar, I hope he remembers my involvement as fondly as Joe seems to view that of his dad.

(I've been away on business all week. I think I'll take Friday off and have my kid teach me something on guitar. :-)

Re: Pandora Joe Juxtaposition

Ha, thats funny - I listen to Dire Straits with my little girls. They know the words to Tunnel of Love, which is adorable - they also know the words to Les Boys, which is somewhat worrisome...

And yes I agree, I majorly promote music education as a father as well. I think something that has been lost with alot of guitar players nowadays is the importance of songwriting. I've met so many guitar players, really talented ones too, with dreams of music success who have never written anything more than a few riffs. When my kids are old enough I dont just want them to play instruments, I want them to be creative and come up with their own ideas. Whether they really get into it or not is irrelevant - but supporting creativity and originality is everything.
