I just like that the initial reviews I've seen so far seem very positive.

Here's one:
I REALLY LOVE IT!

The Australian release date was today - maybe that's because Joe's here next week. Ducked out at lunchtime and grabbed mine as I wanted some preparation for any songs that may be in his set on Sunday.
Now I stumbled across Joe only 2 years ago, through one of my long-term music idols, Jimmy Barnes, appearing on Joe's record. I got to see him in Sydney 2 years ago on his last visit. I've only accumulated 3 Joe CDs: DTTD, Black Rock and Live FNIP. (Well actually, I've also got The Beacon and the superb Vienna Opera House DVDs, every BCC release and Don't Explain).

All songs (not counting the Hendrix intro) are credited Joe + somebody (and great writers, some of which I've appreciated before, including with Jimmy Barnes 28 years ago) except the last track which is Joe's alone.
If I had to pick which of those 3 Joe albums I feel it has most in common with, weirdly, I'd say FNIP. It's more raw and urgent than the polish of DTTD. It's filled with an abundance of different styles and feels - not just blues (I guess "different shades"), some funk and swing. Probably overall heavier than I expected. Not surprisingly, there's unbelievable guitar work but in a number of songs counterpointed with gutsy keys, even horns.

Joe's written a very thoughtful introduction linking past and future.

I'm not going to do a song-by-song but suffice to say I'd be happy to hear any of the new ones in the set, in fact the more the better, even if means losing out on other live show favorites.

Re: Music news review of different shades...nice!

It's the gift the will keep on giving.  Waiting for the release is like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.  All of us Joemaniac's know that this is just the beginning.  We will be blown away by the album and then to hear it live will be another experience, all together.  As the time comes closer, I find myself thinking more and more about it.  Going back and watching the releases that they have teased us with.  As I sit here writing this I am listening to "Tour de Force-RAH", I hope Joe never forgets what got him to this point.  I wish him all the success in the world.  The marketing, JB Store, JR Ventures and all the rest.  Joe, it's the music.  The things you feel, the way you can express those feeling into music, that is what moves us.  I am a music junky.  It's in my blood.  My Mother hardly ever watched TV, she would rather listen to music.  I was raised listening to Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, then as she progressed Andre Previn, Errol Garner and many others.  In her later years, she discovered SRV and I remember her asking me shortly before her 90th birthday if I had ever heard of Carlos Santana.  That was in 2009.  Her demise came from dancing in her home to a song she liked and catching her foot on a chair and falling, breaking her hip.  That was the beginning of the end.
I guess my point is, we all love you Joe, we are so excited to get our hands on your new album.  I hope you know and understand that you have a very special place in all our lives.  Be successful, have fun and know that you have made a difference to the lives of countless people.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

+1   +1   +1  !!

Bobkat, very bittersweet about your mother.  But dancing to her favorite music in her 90s - how magnificent!
