Topic: Samantha Fish

We saw Samantha Fish this weekend at the Western Maryland Blues Festival. We had seen her before in DC a couple of months ago. Young woman, guitarist and singer/songwriter. She just played at the Iridium in NY last night. She has a fondness for cigar box and oil can guitars and plays a custom Delaney guitar that has a fish cut out in it. She reminds me of Anna Popovic, similar kind of voice when singing.

With my buddy Scot Sutherland on bass. Got to know him during his tenure with Tommy Castro. Scot also plays in The Wheel, Mike Zito's band when he's not busy with Royal Southern Brotherhood.

Re: Samantha Fish

She's going to be playing about an hour from me in August, I would definitely like to catch her show.

Re: Samantha Fish

It's official, we are going to see her in August.

Re: Samantha Fish

That's great Xland, no doubt you'll have a fantastic time. We just saw her again last night in Wyomissing, PA. Really love this venue because it has such great sound and the audience is usually very well behaved. Samantha had a great show last night and had a nice variety to her setlist including a number of acoustic songs which we hadn't heard yet.

Happy to hear that! This forum has also made us aware of quite a number of musicians that we never would have known otherwise. It's a fantastic resource.

Re: Samantha Fish

Thanks for the great video's.

Re: Samantha Fish

We saw Samantha and her band last night.  Despite the sound being a little muddy due to a sub-par PA system they put on a great show...and she kicked **** on the guitar.  It was primarily an electric show but she did add a few acoustic songs as well and they were all great.  She added Howlin Wolf's "Who's Been Talking" to her set, great stuff.

It was our first time seeing her and we are looking forward to seeing her again.  I highly recommend catching her show if she comes to a town near you.

I'd like to see her but, unfortunately, it doesn't look like she comes to Ohio very often.  Nice you had a good time.

Re: Samantha Fish

old(ish) thread...

I saw Sam back in march, front row seats, she is the REAL DEAL, totally great. Doesn't overplay, sings great, and is pretty to boot! lol    I'll buy anything she releases.   She's currently in & out of the studio recording her 3rd album... can't wait!

That thinline she plays and the Cat5 Andrew sound AWESOME.

Re: Samantha Fish

As I posted in another thread, we saw Samantha this week opening for Tab Benoit and Tommy Castro on their Six Strings Down Tour. She played a nice long opening set. Always a great time seeing Samantha and she played a song we hadn't heard before called "Down In The Swamp" which sounded really cool. And the Birchmere is a great venue because it has nice lighting and sound which makes for good video. Something you don't always get wink

Re: Samantha Fish

We saw Samantha last night at the "Great American Music Hall" in S.F., she was great...really a fun show...started kinda slow and country, I had some doubt but she brought out that "lunch Box" guitar and the show picked up from there....No doubt I would see her again...

LOVE Samantha's music. Saw her a few months back at The Funky Biscuit in Florida and her show was outstanding. She's very charismatic and a great musician. Definitely worth catching her show and checking out her records.

Re: Samantha Fish

Samantha Fish rounds off her current UK tour tomorrow at Edinburgh Blues Club.

We purposely booked a larger venue for this show, Stramash, due to demand, and it's going to be our biggest show yet.

If you're in driving distance come along! smile

Wylam Brewery; Newcastle 25-10 -2022

So, thought it was about time I had a look along to what I regard as my "garden shed" for a gig, since I can see it from my kitchen window. Originally slated for my birthday back in February, I wasn't going to be daunted by a slight re-arrangement; I've waited for a while to catch Samantha Fish, and having Wille & the Bandits as support, well it made it a no-brainer.

Samantha, suffice to say she's been on my "bucket list" for a while, Covid and prior schedule clashes notwithstanding, and I'm happy to report she didn't disappoint. The Madonna-esque "Blonde Ambition" looks were merely a distraction, this girl knows how to Rock'n'Roll and swings one of the dirty/nastiest SCs I've heard in a good while. And there's Blues credentials, starting and ending with some tasty cigar-box slide and a fine slice of old-school acoustic Blues. This Kansas lass reads her audience well, and feeds of them with aplomb. If there was a "down", somewhere toward the end of the main set, something happened in the bass mix and there was too much reverb from the bass.

I'm about 5 albums behind Samantha, so I can see me addressing that problem before too long, but I think the most part of the set was: -
Bulletproof (Tangle Eye Mix)
Better Be Lonely
Twisted Ambition
Highway's Holding Me Now
Hypnotic
No Angels
Faster
Don't Let It Bring You Down (Neil Young cover)
#@$@# on the Run
Dream Girl
Black Wind Howlin'

Side note; first time at this venue and very impressed, the main room is octagonal and under a high dome: no seating aside from a couple of tables to the side of the stage and a few strategic barrels to rest your pints on. There are 2 bars at the back of the show room with a spacious, lounge bar on entry to the building. Capacity, easy 500 standing.
