Re: Joe Bonamassa The Rock N Roll Universe Interview

Thanks Keith for posting this interview.  I like the way Joe seemed to really open up for you. I had heard alot about his thoughts on the new record, but I didn't know about the polyp on his vocal cords last summer.  I'm sure glad it went away and I like that his remedy is to sing every day.  I also thought his comments about going back home to Utica were funny.  "Little Joe Bonamassa".

Anyway, great job and thanks again!

Re: Joe Bonamassa The Rock N Roll Universe Interview

Thanks all for the great response, it's truly appreciated. Most of the credit has to go to Joe, as one can come up with good questions, but to make an interview interesting and insightful it's up to the one who's being interviewed, and Joe ranks up among the best. Thanks Joe for being so candid and letting down your guard. I know I've told you this before, but it bears repeating. It ought to be a crime to be as nice, humble and as talented as you are. wink

Keith..What a beautiful site to start! I've never read an article with Joe that was so enlightening, Thanks!! I'm struck by how much he doesn't realize the magnitude of his "gift". He has guitar skills that stun the best players. I wonder if it's because he's been listening as a player most of his life? As a listener of many years, I remember the electricity that shot thru me with my first Joe exposure...... Sorry I'm so late but it's taken me days to get to page 2....Cathy

That's Joe, ya' can't help but luv him.    smile   Thanks Keith & Joe for the wonderful interview !

P.S.  The part about the little twin bed and his room exactly the way it was is a "heart-tugger"

Re: Joe Bonamassa The Rock N Roll Universe Interview

I can TOTALLY see Joe's side of wanting to write good WHOLE songs, instead of a good song with a couple versus and a fifteen minute guitar solo for every song.  If he ever plays with larger acts, playing before or after - I'd want the other band saying "how on earth are we gonna follow that up?" Instead of "he smokes on guitar, but the songs aren't spectacular"

Joe can have a "Freebird" song here and there, but the rest should be well written and powerful enough to not only influence the crowds, but intimidate the other bands on the card into thinking: JB is the total package.

Re: Joe Bonamassa The Rock N Roll Universe Interview

I think the Rev has a good point regarding audience growth. Word of mouth (my vote for next tour name) is a slow process. My first exposure to Joe was on DVD. He was well past the A.N.D.Y. Live period by then. So, by the time I got to shows he wasn't playing the Blues Deluxe or A.N.D.Y. Live heavy sets. It was that guitar playing that addicted me. I don't think the crowds would get smaller if there were still some long Joe-style solos. In fact, I think audiences will continue to grow. I will buy everything he makes because there's genius in them all. I also like that he is testing his boundaries, He's the Boss!!! (Maybe there's enough material already on tape for a "Best of Joe's Solos" CD?)....I do know that each live show betters the one before....He's definetly on a roll!!!      Cathy

Re: Joe Bonamassa The Rock N Roll Universe Interview

Honestly, I think that no matter where Joe goes with his music or what types of venues he decides to play that audience growth is ever going to go anywhere but up. Joe is Joe...one of a kind. Not a blues guitar player or a rock guitar player or a long solo player or a song player. A great guitar player...a great MUSICIAN. He could play Mary Had a Little Lamb for all I care. I'm sure I'd be mesmerized because Joe would make it completely original and fascinating. Ever time I go to a show I know it will be as familiar as an old sweater but always with something new to experience. Because Joe is constantly evolving and I want to go there with him.

Nancy

I'm just saying.
