Topic: Forum membership hits 15,000

I've been watching the membometer as it slowly ticked its way to 15,000 (it seemed to hesitate last week as it approached the magic number and actually went backward a few digits), but we're finally there.

Unless it takes another about turn congratulations are due to the 15,000th member, "poc". Welcome to all things Joe and where you can indulge with the rest of the Bonamaniacs here. Please tell us a bit about yourself in the Introductions Forum and how you "found" Joe. I see from your two posts so far that you are a player.  There are lots of kindred spirits here and Joe often drops into the Gear Forum to provide info on his rig and guitars. Stick around and join in.

I confess to being a little surprised that the Forum membership isn't a lot higher given Joe's increasing popularity and the exposure his DVDs and music is getting, so if you are reading this but haven't taken the plunge to join us, don't hesitate do it now!

Re: Forum membership hits 15,000

That is a milestone and if you judge it by other forums that is a pretty good number. One thing I look at is the number of guests which can be from 20 to 40 that either aren't registered or logged in. Those that we call lurkers. There is just a small percentage that register and even smaller percentage that post and the smallest percentage of all contribute at a regular basis. It is those that create the content to keep the forum fresh and people coming back.

You never know who the next regular contributor is going to be maybe it will be Poc. wink When Joe is off things are kinda of slow around here I'm pretty sure things will pick up around the end of the month.

I wonder how many sign up but never post.Probably a lot.
I have also been thinking there have been some of the longtime posters that have seemed to disappeared.

Re: Forum membership hits 15,000

I have never considered myself a prolific poster, but as time marches on I find myself only speaking/posting mostly when I actually have something to say (ignoring this current post). I wonder if that is typical for longtime posters?
That aside, 15,000 is an impressive number. I recall the previous website...when there were fewer zeroes at the end of the membership number, lol.

With 4628 posts (albeit over 8.25 years), if you're not prolific you're close at least yikes.  That's about 11 posts a week.

Re: Forum membership hits 15,000

unfortunately the 15,000 member number is not entirely accurate. A significant portion of that number is made of of spam memberships, meaning someone signs up for the sole purpose of posting links to their website in hopes of selling their product. These people have no intention of ever participating on the forum, they are only looking to use the forum for their own benefit. I would like to urge all forum members to not click on any links provided people who have signed up but don't participate on the forum.

Re: Forum membership hits 15,000

Yes, that's something I'm totally aware of and I'm just glad the "poc", who I flagged as the 15,000th member isn't a spammer.

I'd urge you all to let the moderators know if you see a post by a spammer. These are often posts without any substance but always with links, usually in their signature, pointing to a commercial website. There's also the possibility that you could be clicking on a link to a site that may infect your pc. It's best to exercise caution and only click on links of regular forum members or at least check the URL that appears at the bottom left of the browser (if you're using IE) looks legitimate when you hover the mouse pointer over the link.

Last week a quick forum e-mail to Jim m resulted in the banning of RichardTBarton for this misdemeanour.

Re: Forum membership hits 15,000

Yes banned spammers still show as member unless an administrator removes them completely. There for a while there were 8 or 9 a day but that has slowed down to 3 or 4 out of 100 new members. So an accurate count is not easy to do. Somewhere north of 10K is my estimate. We have come a long way regardless the number.
