It's kind of cool for that, like I have a code of my own or something. So anyway, that's my story and the story of my name.

Strong Democratic background and a Skynyrd fan to boot, no wonder we hit it off. Actually I put 2+2 together on the name thing before I read your post and was suprised this hadn't surfaced already after somebody in the band (who will remain anonymous) mentioned in Santa Cruz how an overzealous forum member dug deep to find out your birth name, ahh payin' your dues I guess. Being an avid golfer I'll stick with Bogie any day. I know you don't imbibe, but warn the rest of the gang not to drink with strangers in Russia as you might wake up in the middle of nowhere the next day wondering where your pants and valuables went. Nostrovia!!!

Interesting story about your family history Bogie.  This is sort of a generic question for anyone from the Carolinas or the south.  Do a lot of people take nicknames down there?

My husband's best friend from college married a girl from South Carolina and he was in their wedding party. So many people we met on the bride's side had nicknames starting with the mother of the bride, Binky. (Binky is the name of a baby pacifier, so it struck me really funny...I had an infant at the time)  We also met Buffy, Bunny and Bo.  (I think they like nicknames with B's) The groom went out of his way to introduce my husband to this guy Bo, because of their mutual interest in the Civil War. Bo very politely corrected my hubby that the proper name was The War Between the States.  They also refer to the Civil War as The War of Northern Aggression.  I had never heard this before. 

It is so true about the southern hospitality reputation.  Everyone we met really rolled out the red carpet for us, it was a great time.

I was born in Greer, S.C.  ( A few miles outside Greenville) Although, I grew up in Florida, my parents still have a place in South Carolina where they live about half the year.  My grandfather gave each of his children and grandchildren nicknames as we were born and that's what he called us his entire life.  Silly names that made no sense. The wedding we went to was in Columbia, SC.  Now I have very humble roots, I didn't grow up blue-blood or anything and have limited high society exposure, etc. but one of the parities we went to 2 days before the wedding hosted by friends of the parents...the host had a red carpet rolled out the front door, down the front path...Never heard of that and never have seen it again.  Good party people down there for sure...the rehearsal dinner was like a northern wedding...great band, food and at least 275 guests!!  The groom fixed my hubby and I up on a blind date, so he is such a special person to us smile...they met in New York then  moved to Columbia then  the Raleigh area...we only see him maybe once a year now during March madness!  He has some interesting stories about living in Nascar land...About the New Yorkers, funny comment and of course Joe negates all stereotypes about New Yorkers smile and the upstate ones are different anyway...Let's just say, living in bordering New Jersey, I can pick them out on the road w/o seeing their liscense plate by the way they drive.  My son is in college with a ton of Mets/Giants fans...he had them all summed up after 2 weeks. lol Like you, just kidding, of course...

My daughter's name is Sarah Josephine (my mother's name for her middle name), but we just call her Sarah. Unless of course, her dad wants to "get" her attention, then it's Sarah Jo. But I was just Butch at home when I was small. Can you imagine if they would have called me Roy Butch? Now that's funky!!

Now, this is one show I'm REALLY interested for a review!! Anyone from the forum other than the band going to this, some pictures of the crowd on "woke up dreaming", peak my interest. I got this vision in my mind of a subdued crowd, arms crossed, pouty looks on there faces, with their chins jutted out slightly. The very few pictures of the venue give it a very grand appearance. You have to go to the guestbook on the page and look for "BOB", I laughed my **** off, what does all the porn crap got to do with being a guest...lol.. Hey different country, culture, whatever!!

Apparently, there really was a guy named Hargrove Bowles, who at one time ran for Governor of North Carolina in 1972, and is the father to former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles.

I think I could understand the original better.

Hi all, my name's Mike and I'm from Moscow. This is a kinda funny discussion you've started here, so I thought I could tell you what yesterday's show actually was like.

Well, it was great :)
Joe and the guys played for about two hours, the crowd really was ok (audiences in Russia always give artists a warm welcome, we don't get as much good live music as the US or Europe), although I didn't like the venue - too big and, er, formal for the kind of music Joe plays, I'd prefer a smaller bar or a club :) and the sound was not perfect. I couldn't remember everything cause I was busy shooting away with a camera, but the show started off with "Bridge To Better Days", followed by "So Many Roads" and "Ball Peen Hammer". Joe was smiling and had a good vibe with the audience (whatever that means). The acoustic solo on "Woke Up Dreaming" was a true highlight, SO COOL, everyone was mesmerized with Joe's skills and musicality (no pouty faces, mind you, people clapped along most of the time), next were "High Water Everywhere" and "Django". All in all, it was a very good, solid, high-quality rock and blues performance from the best damn guitar player in the world. We had an encore and people gave the band a standing ovation as they left.

I wish Joe did "Blues Deluxe" and "I Don't Live Anywhere", but hey, it's a miracle he actually found the time to go to Russia amid his US tour.
