Just got word from radio he passed away at age of 70.

Will sadly be missed.

Sad day indeed. He was a power house. I saw him last two years ago at Tupolo in NH. He needed help to get to the stage sat down. Then omg what a slide player absolutly amazing. He will be missed.

Huge loss to the world of music.  How lucky for us that he came to our small town earlier this year.  While frail in appearance he literally smoked that guitar.   Rest In Peace and thanks for the library of music he left us with

Was fortunate to see him a hand full of times over the years. In his prime, late 60s to the mid 90s, before drug abuse affected him, he was pretty awesome. That slide, and that distinctive 'growl'... 'YEAH'.

It was over a year ago when I last saw him.
Damon Fowler opened the show then Jim Suhler played.
Johnny came onstage and he had to sit during the whole performance but as soon as the guitar was in his hands you forgot about his health issues.
He was incredible!
Loved his slide guitar.

Never saw Johnny Winter live and it's an awful regret I have that I didn't.

This is a sad day, indeed.

I'm pretty sure I saw him play the Crossroads 2010 in Chicago.

And with the aftermath of this, this album sales will go up, and potentially Gibson Firebird guitars will become more pricey since he championed them. I find it really hypocritical when markets change like this after the death of a legend.

I was at this show. He was awesome that night!! i saw him in 2010 at the Granada as well. I'm glad I had the chance to see him play. It's sad that he's gone, but he was on tour, so in a way he died doing what he loved doing the most.

If the price of Firebirds was going to go up because Johnny played one it would have happened long ago. The spike in album sales is more of a show of respect for a departed artist and it doesn't mean squat to Johnny now anyway. I'll miss his unique tone and vocals, so rest in peace Bluesman! Hypocrisy? More like Blasphemy!

Johnny Winter for whatever reason was not a big influence on my taste in blues rock. Of course later in life I realized how he influenced so many that I'm a fan of. I guess I was too young in Johnny's prime to ever see him play. It was not until 5 or 6 years ago that I finally got to see him and even meet him briefly. There had been so many stories about how he was such a disappointment because of his health problems. I was really setting myself up for a surprise. Sure enough he although seated just ripped. Had the packed venue captivated. I still don't listen to his records but I hear his influence almost everywhere.

My husband and I saw him many years ago - he was at an all day blues fest near where I live back in the late eighties (I think).  Also in the line-up that day was Stevie Ray and John Mayall (his amp caught on fire).

He will be missed.
