Topic: Set list question

While it has been coverd a gazillion times by just about anyone trying to play any variation of the blues, I really like Joe's version of Walking Blues on Blues Deluxe.  Does he ever play it live?

The way I was raised,  calling him Joe, as it seems everyone does here, feels really odd.  It's not about age but about respect,  I am older.  I always think Mr. Bonamassa ... or Guitar God.  smile

Thanks

Re: Set list question

I don't think so. I've never heard of him playing it. Maybe he has somewhere?
When we see him face to face, it's just plain Joe. He likes it that way.

He definitely played it in 2003.

Re: Set list question

Jane, it was a limited setlist item in 2003.  At least one show I attended in New York for sure.  Probably played in Texas, Oklahoma, and MoJoeHio also.

As Rainman would say, "Definitely, definitely." tongue

Re: Set list question

The only rarity that I witnessed was Lie #1 in Tulsa 2002 I have never seen or heard Walking Blues however I will take your word for it Rocket if you saw it played in NY.

Do not recall hearing "Lie #1," (is favorite from "So, It's Like That") although I only "think" not.  Maybe...doubtful?  It was played in Syracuse at 32 Degrees November 2, 2002, but I did not make that show.

Back to the original question at hand...Well, I found a setlist from MoJoeHio 2003

November 22, 2003@The Cellar - Struthers, MoJoeHio

Walking Blues
Trouble Waiting
If Heartaches Were Nickels
Taking The Hit
Mountain Time (pretty sure this was probably still the original version)
You Upset Me Baby
Blues Deluxe,
Don't Burn Down That Bridge
Miss You, Hate You
Pain & Sorrow

Encore: I Don't Live Anywhere
If 6 Were 9/Spanish Castle Magic

Rock ON & Keep the Faith (even when you  don't always keep track of setlists),
Rocket

ps-I did not attend this one. setlist.com from back on the day

Re: Set list question

The second show I saw was in July of 2002 after seeing him in May. SILT wasn't even out and they were doing some material from it trying to rearrange the set. I could be mistaken if I am then it would be My Mistake which could explain the setlist listing Walking Blues in Ohio. wink I know Sick in Love was played a few times and shelved. Maybe I heard Sick in Love and later thought it was Lie #1 not sure but I wasn't there to see a new set list I wanted to see the ANDY setlist again to make sure it wasn't a fluke that I witnessed before.

It wasn't, just a few new songs spattered in. Sure wish I had taped it. In hindsight I saw something pretty special I believe early in that tour. As you know SILT was not his favorite album to pick from and he did try several before settling on Mountain Time, Takin the Hit and Pain and Sorrow SILT. Blues Deluxe pretty much didn't have a lot of variations from the ones he initially chose to play live. Burning Hell, Wild About You Baby, You Upset Me, The Road is My Home and Woke up Dreaming and of course the title track on that one too.

In some cases all we got is memory and that isn't a such a reliable thing for me anymore.

Re: Set list question

Thanks for the replies guys.  I was curious.  Seems like it is very unlikely I'll see him play it live or we'll get a live version on disc.  Bummer, I really like that track.  Gimme a bucket.

Re: Set list question

Here's another option - http://setlist.fm. It's got a ton of old set lists from Joe, amongst many other bands. Here's one from 2002:

Re: Set list question

That is a distinct possibility, Jane, as October 11, 2002 at The Cabooze, Minneapolis, MN, "Walk In My Shadows" was listed on the disc as "Walk In My Shoes."  Couple that with early millennial shows usually inserted "Walk In My Shadows" in the first part of the set lists.  That Minneapolis version was jumping and jazzed up from both "A New Day Yesterday" and  "A New Day Yesterday Live" versions.  An ongoing example, to this day, of what I consider to be the dichotomous key of the Joe Bonamonster.  Namely you never know WHAT you are going to get from him, yet you ALWAYS know what you are going to get from him....

Regarding "Walking Blues" as contained on "Blues Deluxe" album, I would
defer to the journal of Joe, whether he wrote or pulls it out of his memory.  But I still believe he
has performed it in New York, whether in entirety or not.  I don't mind being incorrect, heck I could blame Joe for those early bird sonic mind-blowing concussions, with or without tongue biting or head spinning... tongue big_smile

Y'all are a little scary.  In a good way.  I can't remember the set list for what I had for breakfast yesterday.

I may not be losing it in the mental capacity I thought I might be if that set list is correct than Lie #1 was played in the time period I saw him in. July 2002 in Tulsa I'm almost certain I heard it.
