Topic: "This Old Guitar"

I watched the Neil Young DVD "Heart of Gold", and during the show (at the Ryman Theater/site of the Grand Old Opry), he gives the history of an acoustic guitar that he purchased 30 years ago that Hank Williams had owned. It's obvious that Neil holds great reverence for this guitar and it's history. Neil goes on to mention that this guitar was last played at the Ryman in 1951, HW's last show there. He then plays a song that I think is titled "This Old Guitar".
It got me thinking about the incredible history of guitars, not just any guitars, but guitars that have been played by legends. Where are they?...who owns them now?...are they being  played or are they in a display case somewhere?
Finally, it's obvious that Joe has a love for guitars (hence the calendar). I'm wondering if any of Joe's guitars have a pedigree??? Anyone know? Joe?

I know Clapton's Blackie and Brownie were auctioned off for his Crossroads recovery center. Stevie's Lenny was also auctioned for the same cause. Billy Gibbons's Pearly Gates has been retired. And eight days before he died, Albert King gave his Flying V to his "adopted" cousin Lee King. I'm just thinking of all the famous guitars I can think of.

Cutter Brandenburg told a story of the guitar Jimmy and Stevie learnded to play on. It was a Tele YOUCANTSAYTHATHERE with a Strat neck. It got pawned and has not been seen since. That would be a Holy Grail aquisition.

The Gold Sparkle Strat of Joe's might be one of those legendary guitars someday. I have never heard if Joe owns any historicly significant guitars.

guitar played by



I saw strat played by jimi hendrix with a picture of him playing it....dont remember how much it went for but it was in the tens of thousands...

when it comes to ebay, there is ways for forgery no matter how much "proof" for authenticity.

I have bought guitars off ebay before and have been lucky with sound & feel.  But its a big gamble to get a guitar off the internet without playing it first.

That's why I'm not ordering a Gigliotti guitar from them - I'd like to play one first!
