Topic: String gauge?

What string gauge does joe use on his black clapton signature strat on the a new day yesterday dvd? 11s?

Re: String gauge?

I believe they're 11's.  Dean Markley, maybe 11-48?  I know I read this somewhere, I just can't remember the exact size of the low E, but they are some sort of Dean Markley 11's
Hope this helps,
Scott

Re: String gauge?

He uses a 7 string set. Throws away the heaviest string. 11's through 52 with an unwound 4th string.

I think you mean an unwound 3rd string- his D string is definetly wound

Re: String gauge?

I stand corrected. I was counting from the top. Not a player just. Just a guitar player fan that happens to know what strings Joe uses.

Re: String gauge?

I was going to say if it is unwound D string, its only like that on THAT guitar, because every one else I have seen him play in person has a wound D and an unwound G string, which appear to be either 10's or 11's.....I'm guessing 11's -

Personally, I run 11's on my fenders and 10's on my Gibsons...

Re: String gauge?

What does wound mean?
Im 12 and i use 11's

Re: String gauge?

"Wound" means it has wire that wraps around the core to make the bigger strings more resonant and a little easier on the fingers. Your big E, A, and D strings are likely wound. Sometimes the G string is wound on acoustic sets.

Why would anyone have a wound g string?

Jazz guys use them sometimes. They don't typically do a whole lot of string bending.

Re: String gauge?

inside the new album it says what strings and guage he uses

Re: String gauge?

Vintage guitars from the 50's and 60's actually had a would G string when they were brand new...similar to acoustic strings.  Yes, I think jazz sets have some wound G strings, but I have never seen people play them on electrics anymore...

Acoustics.

A wound g string is less likely to go out of tune during performance which is typical for a lot of guitars with shorter scales, such as Gibsons.

Mate, I've been asking women that question for years... They always just seem to give me odd looks... I'm stumped...

If you have ever tried a wound G on your electric you would find they play so much more in tune than a plain.  Those weird G string overtones are gone and your chords sound so sweet.  On the other hand, if you bend them more than about twice, they break.  That doesn't work for rock n roll at all.
