Topic: Ukulele Blues

Hello all!
So with all this Blues Cruise stuff, plus the start of summer (and hitting some sweet waves - any other surfers on here?) I've been feeling pretty beachy.

I'm sitting in with some Trop Rock bands in Massachusetts (did anyone even know there was such a genre?) this weekend and next, and I wanted to share a new tune with you -

I'm working on an album that I started just after Blues Masters - some of you may remember we had proposed doing a fundraising album for Keeping the Blues Alive - unfortunately that never came to be, not all of the other finalists were into it and I never heard back from KTBA, but several of the finalists and I have remained good friends. 4 or 5 of them will have guest appearances on this new album which is to be titled "Blue Haven" -

Anyway, this isn't a collaborative song, its all me, but a big part of my blues influence is early rock n' roll and also SoCal beach rock (specifically the Beach Boys). So I like clean guitar, ukulele and vocal harmonies. Its up for free download until the album comes out. Hope you all like it!

Cheers
Jack

Old surfer here Jack. I like it. You must be a longboard cruiser because that's the feel I get. Nice playing and singing.

Re: Ukulele Blues

Thank you for the kind words Rick! I'm always a little hesitant to share my beachier stuff with the bluesrock crowd, so I'm glad to hear when people enjoy it. Yes, shortboard shredding totally bores me. I prefer a 10' noserider and the Endless Summer soundtrack ;-)

...I also live in Maine, and we're no Oahu. Best we get near me is about 5-7' swells, and thats in Hurricane season. But I like longboarding better anyway, its "groove surfing".

Re: Ukulele Blues

I understand. I've seen the average surf in Maine and a longboard is much more suited to 90% of the waves you get. We are more lucky here. San Diego has good waves almost all year. smile

Re: Ukulele Blues

Ha yes - San Diego has more than just good waves all year... we get snow, and lots of it ;-)

My shortest board is a 9 but I usually ride a 10. Tried a 7'9 for a while but just not usable in smaller swells. I dream of getting a nice Robert August 12' single fin noserider - how cool would that be!
