Re: Gary Clark Jr.

smile glad to be of service!

here’s another song that people don’t realise is theirs: - 14 years old now and a bit of a classic.

- anyway enough off topic, back to Gary Clark Jr

one of the more “pop” songs that I caught: http://youtu.be/eDcMRlXogSI

- I caught half of Catfish Blues which I need to put up.

Re: Gary Clark Jr.

I hear what you're saying about the London gig, Ian but last night in Manchester was magnificent. All the 450 crowd was into every song and there was a lot of young folk in the audience. Did 3 different songs " If trouble was money", "Things are changing" & "You Saved Me". Didn't do "In the Evening".

Gig of the year for me so far.

Re: Gary Clark Jr.

I agree with Kenny, phenomenal performance from Gary and his band last night. Gig of the year, so far, for me too!

Re: Gary Clark Jr.

Saw Gary a few months ago....Incredible!! Very talented singer guitarist and several styles of music. This guy is the real deal...and it's pretty impossible to classify his music....which I appreciate...no "box" for this guy

Re: Gary Clark Jr.

you may have misinterpreted what I said NickelWound, - my comment was not in any way negative towards John Mayer, - I made no mention of his ability or where he taken his playing, - I have many of his albums, and would say that arguably he is one of the best.  My comment was about the advice that JM gave GCJr, which was reported as saying that he should NOT stick to blues, but mix it up a bit with pop type of songs, - and what I was reporting was that when GCJr played those pop focused songs it appeared  that the interest of the audience wandered. The crowd were there to see blues rock, - and those songs were very well received.Personally I hate putting artists into boxes, and I have no problem with pop, but for me I am not convinced that is his natural forte, - it came across a bit staged. The comment I made if anything was negative in the direction of GCJr for taking the advice, because IMO GCJr is a fine blues player and as such is something a bit special.

Can't wait to buy this cd BUT...9/23 is the same day Joe will be out with Different Shades of Blue...i don't think Gary Clark JR will have much playing time that week in my house!  smile

...a live album can't compete with an all-original new album from Joe...it's too much time we are waiting for this!!!...but this guy is really good, i really like his blues-rock songs...for a double CD, i guess there will be a lot of 10 minutes songs with great solos.

I've seen Joe live but never had the pleasure of seeing Gary live, but I am a fan. I agree on the timing of the release of Gary's new CD. It's gonna be tough going up against Joe's new stuff. But that will not stop me from getting both on release day, the house will definitely be rockin' come the 23rd!

I did pick it up while at B Buy yesterday for DSOB. It's priced at $11.99 as well this week. Naturally, unwrapping DS was the priority. Hopefully today it will get a spin.

Have to admit, I only spun his studio releases a couple of times, then on the shelf they sit. Picked this one up becuase I have a soft spot for Live releases and I have a feeling a bit of raw Gary will shine through.

Re: Gary Clark Jr.

It just popped up on Rdio a couple of days ago - I love it and will be buying the CD. It has also motivated me even more to make sure I catch Gary live in 2015!

As I mentioned, I picked it up at B Buy on Tuesday when I picked up DSOB ... but spun it today (Sunday) for the first time ... to let DSOB cool off a bit.

I really like the grittier tone of the cuts here more so than how they appear on his studio releases ... and naturally ... it's a solid set list of his best.

A great choice for someone buying their first GC, Jr. CD. (Actually a double CD ... and B Buy had it @ $11.99)

I must admit I thought about buying GC Jr when in Best Buy then I thought I would wait till next week. I don't want it debuting higher than Joe on the charts if that matters anymore. I know selfish of me.

:fp  you are so right!

I did buy 3 DSOB's ... and went back for 2 more (spreading the word gifts) during the week ... so hopefully my stupid action will be minimal.  If Gary wins by 1, I will be pissed at myself for sure. smile)  (Actually tried to find Soundscan results online before posting, no luck.)

So did I,  it was  right next to DSOB and since I had a ten dollar reward certificate so had to have both. It's been played exactly one time, and time it played all I could think of was Joe. GCJ best song to me is Numb, love the distortion on the  guitar but felt like it was especially dirty, too dirty. Still a great disc but I am back to spinning Joe.
The one thing I like about DSOB is that every song is consistently good, after 15 plays by now I would be skipping to my favorites but I'm not doing that with this disc, every track just seems to flow right into the next one. This Is an album meant to be listened to in its entirety,  loud , and sitting at home, not driving to work. Easily the best work Joe has ever done!

Just heard Bright Lights on a TV advert for Reveal by Calvin Klein. That came as a surprise!
