Topic: Ronnie Earl

We just saw Ronnie Earl at the Western Maryland Blues Festival this weekend and WOW! This guy is amazing! One fantastic song after another. All instrumental so having a hell of a time figuring out the names of the songs for uploading. He did one that I swear sounded just like the "Blues Deluxe" Joe does. He also decided to come down off the stage and play right between the fence and the stage. We were right at the fence and Phil nearly got hit by the headstock of his guitar when he was walking back and forth. Then he sits down right on the pavement there and keeps playing. It's like we had our own personal concert. It was intense. I have video of the whole thing. What a night!

He did about 17 or 18 songs, played for almost 2 hrs and would have gone on for longer, but they stopped him. If anyone knows the names please let me know.

Song #1 kinda felt like an interpretation to the old Lil Willie John "Fever" tune .. just a guess

Thanks Buzzy! Your kind remarks and enthusiasm is always appreciated smile After spending way too much time on all this I have finally figured out a number of the song titles. I have included them in the edited post above. It is no wonder I thought the one sounded like "Blues Deluxe", it is actually called "Blues for Hubert Sumlin". Here are the rest of the songs from that show. The bass drum at this festival was too high in the mix with Ronnie just as it was for Samantha Fish and Eric Steckel, yet luckily Ronnie's songs don't show it quite to the extreme as the other performers.

We saw Ronnie Friday night in NJ. Fantastic show at a nice small theatre. Great lighting and sound and the audience was so quiet and respectful, yet clapped and showed great appreciation as well. You could have heard a pin drop during Ronnie's quiet solos. I haven't been in an audience that well behaved since I don't know when. It was a joy to behold smile Of course there was no alcohol being sold so maybe that's what made the difference, but man, I wish we had audiences like that at all the shows we go to. Ronnie played a great batch of songs and kept coming down off the stage into the audience. Made it a bit tricky to film at those points since it was dark in the audience, but he eventually ended up near the front where there was more lighting. He really likes to get close to people when he's playing. I guess he enjoys the connection. There were 21 songs in all which included 3 encore songs.
