Re: British Blues Awards 2014

I am surprised he didn't get in the overseas artist list.Given how popular Joe is in the UK.

Re: British Blues Awards 2014

Don't recognize many names at all on the list. Seems like a the BMA's only European in nature. Gonna put this in Other Artists.

Re: British Blues Awards 2014

To familiarise people with one of the names on the list here is King King:
Nominated Best Band for 3rd year running, performing "A long history of love", nominated Best Song.
From the album "Standing in the Shadows", nominated Best Album.

Re: British Blues Awards 2014

For those who are uninformed about the BRITISH Blues Awards, its for British artists with one category set aside for overseas artists. As some of you will know if you win any category three times  you are removed from any further years voting and placed in the BBA Hall Of Fame for that category, it happens in all categories not just overseas artist. Joe has won the overseas three years already, I should know as I presented him with two of the awards. It also keeps the awards fresh and not stale with the same people all the time.
The awards are based on what has transpired over the previous twelve months not a who knows who basis, just because an artist is endorsed by someone who you like doesn't make them worthy in the nomination panels eyes, it is done on merit of albums, touring in Britain etc.
Hope this clarifies everything and hope you all place your votes accordingly if  you want to, I always vote on merit not popularity.

If you want to know more about the process of what is decided for the public voting stage, you will find all information here, if not I will try and help.

No Juno Awards for Joe, either.  Unless, he could qualify for International Album of the Year, one of these years.  I expect a little fore-checking from some established Canadians on that idea(l)... tongue Oh, well! big_smile

ps-it WOULD be a great honor-especially not for snubbing the home team, but a smear to the Grammys! tongue

How can I take this seriously when there is no mention of Matt Schofield!

Like Joe he's in the hall of fame.
I was missing Ian Siegal … and he's in the hall of fame too.

For me it's okay that one can't vote again for musicians who already are in the hall of fame regarding best guitarist or best singer or best band. Regarding best album or best song I would prefer if the voting would be open also for the musicians who already are in the hall of fame.

Re: British Blues Awards 2014

Before you turn your noses up and consider this NOT worth your time, I suggest you listen to some of these artists. Most of my favorites from the last year are there. The process is very fair and not driven by money. What a concept!! Brilliant to have a Hall of Fame too, I might add.

Re: British Blues Awards 2014

I would echo Cathy's advice here; if you've not heard of many of the artists up for voting, get on YouTube, Spotify etc and check them out. There's a rich selection of stuff there. Upcoming youngsters like Blues Boy Dan Owen who I'd tip as chasing Ian Siegal or hidden treasures like Trevor Sewell for example.

Give back the lemons.  Why were the lemons free?  What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...
