Topic: NY - Live at the Iridium DVD
Just watching the RCFP live at the Iridium for the first time.
The thing that stands out first... the editing is AMAZING. I really dig how they often went for a transparent overlay which really works GREAT. This way you can see most of the musicians during a solo or part and it just looks great and adds to the experience.
If anyone wants a benchmark for terrible editing by the way, check out Joe Satrianis latest dvd which was to my idea completely ruined by the editing. No offense to Satriani of course, the music is still amazing.
2nd: This band is tight with capital TIGHT! I want to know how two drummers can hit exact the same fills doubled... seems impossible - when I saw Bogie and Anton do it on the RAH gig I was stumped.
Ron DeJesus, insane rythem grooves and tone. The telecaster/strat panned hard on the right is just the juice, so solid and funky. Amazing solo's as well.
I've loved the videos from the baked potato and this is just the best, Joe pulls some really unexpected rabbits outta his head and it turns out great, some new pedals thrown in here and there for crazy harmonys and sounds.
Bass is extremely solid and so are the keys, which get really experimental at some points.
I really like the fact that no-one really is the 'frontman' at this gig and band. Just a group of great musicians having fun, it's great to watch someone take a solo and just see the other guys on stage grin and smile at each other having their minds blown.
Now back to my dvd,
Jesse.
