I really hope I didn't alarm y'all. I was in a reflective mood; thinking about my Dad. I really don't think I have anything to worry down, about cancer anyway. Brain surgeon said 2-3 % chance of returning at max.
Actually I am starting to live again. Never hesitate to fire an MD. They work for us. I have a good doctor now. The response from you folks that mean so much to me.
Don't let my absence speak otherwise.

Here is a news story I found that about a development for a vaccine for Breast Cancer. This won't be available for at least 10 years as it has only been studied on mice and have not yet had human trials.
But the article does describe the process of what they are doing to try to see if this is something that is viable. I hope tremendously that it will show strong effectiveness on breast cancer and that this can be a treatment in the future and maybe a path for other cancer vaccines.

The good news is: Cancer isn't a death sentence as it once was.
The bad news is: There is still a long way to go.
One of my co-workers husband's was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma back in April. He is 50 years old and the picture of health. He works out, eats well and is so health conscious, he avoids taking medicine that would filter through his liver. Hopefully, being in great shape will help him battle this.
Multiple Myeloma is one of the top 3 worst cancers to fight. This guy's initial pain was in his back. Being a blood cancer that affects the bone marrow, he had four areas affected. He first had radiation done just to shrink the cancer growth in his back, it is not a form of treatment otherwise for this type of cancer. Then he had back surgery to install this metal cage around his spine because of what the damage the cancer had done. He had a setback when some internal stiches popped open likely because of the radiated area not healing, but recovered well from that and is now going through chemo via pills. Then he will have stem cell replacement.
He has a good attitude and is exercising again. I hope he makes a new statistic because the average life span of stage 1 of MM is about 62 months.
The good news is he has the cadillac plan of health insurance policies being in a union. But the bad news is, he experienced some bad timing. If he was able to work four and a half more months in 2013, he could have retired early at 80% pay and lifetime health benefits for him and his wife. The contract is changing for 2014, he would now have to work 5 more years to get that same package. Just seems cruel...
Yeah, CANCER SUCKS!!
RiverCat-yes heard about that vaccine for breast cancer. And I just read about this new detection device for detecting melanoma skin cancer, called Melafind. I just heard about it and I am still investigating whether I want to get an appt. with a Dr. that has one.

SUCKS! I have not had much time to post here lately and as some of you know from my Facebook posts my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer back in February. He fell down our basement steps on Feb 15, bumped his head and could not put any weight on his left leg we went to the emergency room thinking concussion and sprained ankle. A scan revealed swelling and a tumor on his right side, causing paralysis like symptoms on his left side. We were fortunate to get an appointment with the best neurosurgeon in the area on the following Tuesday, he diagnosed the tumor as a glioblastoma on Wednesday the 19th, 15 years to the date I lost my Mother to the same type tumor. His prognosis is good as it is a different area with totally different symptoms than my Mother. He has had 28 of 30 radiation treatments and taking chemo in pill form. Steroids reduced the swelling and he has gained use of his left side and nearly 100%. He has had few adverse side effects from the treatments and doing great. I am happy to say his is out doing yard work as I type this.
His follow up MRI is scheduled for Monday April 21st and we feel the results will show the treatments have stopped the tumor from further growth and hopefully reducing the size. Because he has been doing so well and other than a little limp on left side all the docs say there is every reason to believe the treatments are doing exactly as they are supposed to. Our hope is to celebrate positive results when we see Joe at Rupp Arena here in Lexington, Friday the 25th and then head down to Nashville on Saturday for the show at the Ryman Really cool is that his neurosurgeon is a guitarist, and has played with a local band here in Lexington for many years. We started talking music and concerts of course I asked if he had heard Joe and quickly replied yes I do like Joe!
Great to hear encouraging results for Jimmy! Good to hear the neurosurgeon is a guitarist... Now there's the kind of hand and eye association and memory muscle to have in your corner! Here's to hoping for further good improvements and hanging in there.
...and...Good times with Kintuckee back in the Finished Four. That's enough to glue on a smile in itself this year, and Joe Bonamassatherapy (or whatever one of you gals defined it as long ago) in the near term bode wellness also!

Liz, thinking positive thoughts for you and hubby, sounds like you have a great doctor. I'll be pulling for the Cats tonight, 'bout time to hang another banner!
Great news Liz! I've been and will continue to pray for you both. Good luck to the Cats tonight and their magical journey to another NC. You know it's not easy for me to pull for Kentucky, but I have a lot of dear friends (you included) that NEED this ray of sunshine! I do like Kevin Ollie and his stud guard Shabazz and hope they can make it interesting for us fans.
Hey, Liz. So glad to hear the positive feelings going on. Glad the treatments are almost at an end for your sweet man. See you at Rupp
Thanks everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts. The Cardiac Cats are holding true to their name down 4 at the half! March Madness and UK in the championship game has definitely been good therapy! Win or lose this run is epic some of the most exciting games ever!

Thoughts and prayers to you and your husband Lizzee.
Great season by UK, even though they lost the final they can hold their heads high...highest combined seeding ever and some very good teams dismantled by UK and UConn on their way to the championship.
My prayers and hugs go out to eveyone here. Yes indeed, cancer sucks big time.
I have an appt for a biopsy (in both breasts) next week and I'm scared to death but we'll see.
I lost my two best friends, both relatively young, to ovarian and lung cancer. My friend who had the ovarian, was on a second round of chemo when she had a massive stroke. The doctors told her family the chemo was the cause. Chemo is poison, period.
I"m really convinced this epidemic is caused by the crap that's in our water, our air and food. Twenty five years ago, you rarely heard of it. Now, everyone is affected.
Seriously, watching Joe's videos does help. Diversions are great.

I hope all goes well with your biopsy, early detection is the key. I too had to have biopsies in both breasts in early January, thankfully everything was okay. Very scary none the less.

Thanks Bill, he's doing great! U Conn was more than UK could handle for sure, but no one ever thought they would make it that far, quite an accomplishment for such a young team

It was quite the ordeal thanks......3 1/2 hours and very painful. Now just waiting for the results. Oy
I am just now off of my radioactive quarantine. Thyroid cancer is an easy card to pick off of this deck. My heart goes out to you all.
Joe and his music is a big part of keeping the attitude positive and rocking! The wild born Chincoteague Pony my other "cure".
"GG" had some issues when I got her and has reverted back due to the lack of work. Think Misty's delinquent cousin from the Bronx.
I leave tomorrow for the ranch to go knock off the winter hair and start again. Good hopes for the coming summer.
Finding the key to your heart (Joe REALLY helps with this!) has been the way I have found to keep myself on a rocky path, one foot in front of the other, take nothing for granted is something we all share.
The friends and loved ones support so invaluable and priceless.
I will keep you all in my prayers.

Thanks Tahoe Joe.....good luck to you.
Unfortunately, they found cancer in both breasts but it's very early and treatable. I will be having a lumpectomy done on both breasts on May 9 and radiaton therapy soon after. I know I'm lucky to have found this so early but it's still a shock and a blow to a woman. I"m counting on God and Joe's music to get me through...I know they will!
