The London Gig Buddies had a superb time at the RAH yesterday afternoon.
I met up with Kenny in the basement bar to see Danny Bryant, a definite shoe-in for Walter Trout if one is needed, then upstaiirs to the top floor to see The Hoax, where the room was packed with a couple of hundred in attendance. We hooked up with Maggie, Lydia, Roger and Steve Borkovski, who'd been queuing to get front and centre, plus Eldo and Kenny's sister, Marlene. The Hoax played nine songs, with I think only one from their new album. I have to say they were were absolutely on fire and probably played the best I've seen them perform. Due to the tight schedule there was no time for an encore. We split up again with me, Kenny, Eldo and Marlene going downstairs to see Bad Apples and the others in the basement with Matt Taylor. For good time rockin' blues, I think we had the better deal with Micky Moody's legendary guitar skills to the fore - he was superb. The singer is Robert Hart, who currently sings with Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but has also provided vocals for Bad Company. Needless to say, he has a great voice. There was plenty of dancing and a good time was had by all. I even saw some senior rockers doing the hand jive when they played Willie and The Hand Jive.
It was great to see so many young children there (entrance for kids is free), although I think some parents are rather irresponsible in not providing them with ear plugs.
While waiting for Bad Apples to perform I heard the strains (appropriate word) of Elvis Costello going through his sound check. Do the promoters really think he sings the blues? Sounds more like strangled cat.
Back for more fun this afternoon and Robert Cary and Beth Hart this evening. Sometimes working in London isn't so bad.

Approximately 30 minutes of Robert Cray live at RAH followed by 30 minutes of Beth Hart. Online for the next 30 days. Sound is very good:
